Reports Suggest Spurs Are In Pole Position In Chase For Former Liverpool Star On Strange Loan Deal

|

With only a couple of days left before the summer transfer window slams shut, most Tottenham Hotspur fans are begging the club to strengthen further to ensure we build on last season and take further steps closer to the top two spots in the Premier League and on Tuesday there were very interesting reports linking us with a move for Barcelona and former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho.

I’m not sure if ESPN or The Times were the original source here, but both had slightly different takes on the story.

In short, it’s believed we have been offered the 27-year-old’s services for next season on a loan spell and a deal could be done in the region of £21million. Arsenal are linked, but the suggestion is they won’t do a deal at that price, with us now apparently already having made an offer for the supposed out of favour player. Manchester United are also tentatively linked.

The reports do lean on manager Mauricio Pochettino working with him earlier in their career at Espanyol and ESPN speculate that for a deal to go through from our end, it would need Christian Eriksen to leave, along with moves for Giovani Lo Celso and Bruno Fernandes to fall down.

It all seems a little bit convoluted to me, but everyone knows what Coutinho can do in the Premier League and if there is a genuine interest it would be a statement capture, but the loan element here leaves me sceptical.

We’ll soon find out.
