Opinion: Tenacious attacker’s return will come as a huge boost for Tottenham

|

Tottenham fans have had some good luck with injuries in the last few weeks. The likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon have played their part in recent matches from the start and off the bench, although that doesn’t mean the club has no injury concerns.

One man is still sidelined, and it’s a man who has been in impressive form for the Lilywhites for a lot of this season so far. The man in question is Erik Lamela, who is currently out with a thigh injury (Premier Injuries), and his return will be massive for Tottenham.

The tenacious Argentine attacking midfield man is one of Spurs’ chief creators when he’s fit and firing, and his numbers this season show just what he brings when he’s up to it and on the pitch. The 27-year-old, so far this season, has managed six combined goals and assists (Transfermarkt) and has impressed in the early stages of the campaign.

It’s certainly up to the player and no one else to maintain his levels and keep his performances up when he does get back to full fitness and is back in contention, but given the issues that Spurs have in attack at the moment, having scored less than two goals in six of their last seven Premier League games, the added creativity and threat of Lamela will be a bonus.

We’ve already seen Lo Celso get into the side and start making a difference, and if the two Argentine internationals can start performing together in Lilywhite then the fans will be in for a real treat, but for that to happen Lamela will have to work hard during the international break, get back to fitness and get into the Spurs side and show what he can do.

Should Lamela be starting for Tottenham?

Yes!

No!

It’s certainly easier said than done, but with Harry Kane struggling to thrive with a lack of service, Christian Eriksen out of form and Lucas Moura seemingly not trusted at the moment, bringing in someone who can defend from the front, get his hands dirty and still show a touch of class going forward could be crucial for the Lilywhites.
