Tottenham were humiliated by Bayern Munich in a 7-2 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The story was very similar as they took the lead, like they have done in so many matches this season, but they could not hold on and were turned over.
Spurs have now lost points from winning positions on four occasions this season, and this will need to be stopped, or Tottenham will continue to struggle.
Of course, a 1-0 lead against a team like Bayern Munich is not a comfortable advantage but to go from 1-0 up to 4-1 down by the 55th minute is unacceptable.
Mauricio Pochettino has spoken about a need for togetherness and everyone pushing in the right direction, and you can see why he is saying that – as Spurs have now lost eight points from games where they have taken the lead.
In the Champions League Spurs had a 2-0 advantage over Olympiakos but ended up drawing the game 2-2 and on Tuesday they took the lead but were then humiliated.
There is obviously something not right with the mentality of the players because losing this many points from winning positions is pathetic.
Tottenham were helped by Olympiakos losing – which means beating the Greek side and two wins over Crvena Zvezda should be enough to seal qualification out of Group B, but they really need to improve, or they will not go far in the Champions League this season.
Pochettino must find a way to ensure his side can hold onto the lead in games or Spurs will continue to underperform.
