Have Your Say: Spurs Were Up “Against A Brilliant Team” – It Happens In Football

|

There are lots of comments tearing the lads to pieces but not one acknowledging we were up against a brilliant team, scoring the most clinical goals I have ever seen in one game. Sometimes you just have to salute your opponents.

Few teams could have lived with such a performance, particularly one that had struggled with ten men to beat Southampton a few days ago (quickly forgotten by our critics). Yes, we caved in at the end trying to pull back a two goal deficit, but even that is not surprising given that attackers had replaced defenders and that it was a night when the Bayern attackers just could not miss.

So I’m not in despair although lessons obviously have to be learned. A pressing game cannot be maintained for 90 minutes when players have been knackered by a previous game. Tactics and players have to be changed accordingly. We cannot dispense with a playmaker as we did in this game, Alli and Winks are not up to it. Dier or Wanyama are needed for the holding midfield position. We also need a decent right back but both our backs had little cover in this game against wingers who were bang on form. We have wingers who can do the same job (Sessegnon and Moura) but for various reasons they are not being used at the moment.

As long as we learn the lessons and keep our heads high we can come through this defeat and still achieve something when all our players are fit. COYS!
