Opinion: Regardless of Tottenham’s need for change, they’ve got the wrong man

|

Tottenham vs Norwich was not a game that the home fans from the clash will want to be reminded of anytime soon. The Canaries overcame Spurs 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and it came as a stark reminder that a lot has to change for the north London club.

The Lilywhites need a number of changes the playing staff at the club and will have to take some drastic action in the transfer market, with a deputy striker to Harry Kane, a couple of new full-backs and maybe even a couple of new midfield men, but regardless of who is needed, they’ve got the wrong man in charge.

When Mauricio Pochettino was sacked back in November last year (BBC), many fans were absolutely gutted, but football is a fast-moving industry and it took just a day for Jose Mourinho to take up the post, but it seems that he’s already showing exactly why he shouldn’t be in charge.

The Portuguese tactician came to Spurs and claimed to be a changed man and a changed manager. That facade, though, has lasted just a matter of months and now we’re seeing the col, moaning Mourinho that we’ve all come to know and dislike from his past roles in his second spell at Chelsea and at Manchester United.

The stats back this up. Tottenham were given a relatively easy draw on paper in the Champions League round of sixteen as they got RB Leipzig, in the German club’s first-ever Champions League knockout clash, yet as the Bundesliga side came to London Mourinho played a 4-4-2, didn’t attack and fell to a 1-0 home defeat, leaving the north London side with little chance of progression.

In the league, things have followed a similar pattern. Tottenham’s last two games, both must-wins, against Chelsea and Wolves, have ended in disappointing defeats, with this FA Cup exit just the latest of shockers to come from Mourinho’s Spurs.

Is Jose Mourinho doing a good job as Spurs' boss?

Yes

No

We know that changes are needed, and there’s no doubt that Mourinho will get cash to try and solve the squad problems and turn things around, but as far as we’re concerned it should be someone else making the decisions from the dugout, as the Portuguese tactician is past his sell-by date.

Regardless of who should manage the team one thing is clear under enic and Lewis and Levy Tottenham will never be a team who will win anything. That is not what enic are about they are about money first everything else after that. If winning anything means spending a lot of money they will look at finishing second or third or fourth. The difference between first and second money wise is not massive but achieving first is so don’t expect to win under enic one carling cup in twenty years says it all.

Agree with Spurs nut d . It must be clear now that what many of us feared is coming to pass. ENIC and Levy have
Destroyed our team with a series of very poor decisions. Their extreme penny pinching has cost us a raft of good
Players. Signing Gedson Fernandes when Bruno is the one we really should have pursued . Signing a winger when quality defenders were needed. Just basic stuff that any Sunday League manger would have understood.
Out of the cup and, barring a miracle, out of the Champions League . Will now cost them in spades just to keep Harry. Add up the figures Levy, decreased attendances plus no Champions League next year will add up to far more Than you would have paid for Bruno Fernandez or any ofthe many talented players you tried to get on the cheap. Spurs need a constant input of quality, not , with the exception of Lo Celso, a bunch of projects.
Not buying a decent back up for Harry was the number one blunder, now see where we are.
