Opinion: Pochettino may have a problem with Aston Villa & Crystal Palace after latest report

|

Tottenham were reported to have made a £53m bid for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, and the latest transfer news might cause a big problem with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.

Spurs have been linked with Jack Grealish and Wilfried Zaha, but no deal has materialised due to disagreements over their respective valuations. Villa wanted up to £40m last summer for Grealish while Palace could accept £50m for Zaha. Tottenham have been unwilling to meet such demands, but their Lo Celso bid could open up a can of worms.

If clubs catch on that Daniel Levy is low-balling them in the negotiations process, they could request an above-value price for the player in question. Tottenham will smash their transfer record if they’re successful in their bid for Lo Celso which could lead to Villa and Palace to wonder how much money Spurs really have for new recruits.

Grealish was open to joining Spurs last summer while Zaha has openly stated his desire to join a side in the Champions League next season, but negotiations now promise to be brutal between all parties. Tottenham may have gone two transfer windows without making a permanent signing, but the £53m bid asks a lot of questions.

Will clubs take advantage of Spurs if they believe they have a lot to spend this summer?
