Report: Tottenham make decision on potential £100m club-record signing

|

According to Simon Johnson of the Evening Standard, Tottenham have withdrawn their interest in Wilfried Zaha after being put off by his £100m asking price. The 26-year-old is keen to move away from Crystal Palace this summer for a club in the Champions League. Zaha has been linked with Tottenham for years, but the Londoners have always balked at his valuation.

The Ivorian international has a £100m valuation slapped on his head and earns around £6.76m-a-year/£130k-per-week at Selhurst Park. Zaha would be Tottenham’s most expensive signing and their third-highest earner if he made the move this summer. He wouldn’t come cheap, but the winger has been impressive in the Premier League.

This season, Zaha has contributed 15 goals in 34 Premier League games, making 54 chances, 114 successful dribbles (51%) and has whipped in 37 crosses with 30% accuracy. The 26-year-old averages a goal or assist every 203 minutes and appears to have outgrown Palace. Zaha contributed 16 league goals in 2016/17 and 12 league goals in 2017/18, proving he’s consistent in the top-flight.

The tricky winger is posting the best numbers of his career and isn’t the same player that failed at Manchester United. Whether he’s worth £100m, however, remains to be seen.
