Opinion: Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham simply have to take this game seriously

|

Tottenham fans have had some fantastic memories from some of their FA Cup clashes down the years. Throughout their history, the Lilywhites have been somewhat synonymous with the famous cup competition, and hold some fantastic records in the tournament.

Having one the famous English honour on eight occasions, the club are no strangers to a lengthy and exciting cup run, and the north Londoners are both the only side to win the FA Cup when playing non-league football, way back in 1901, and were the first side to win the league and cup double in 1961.

Even in recent years, Mauricio Pochettino’s side enjoyed two outings at Wembley Stadium for FA Cup semi-finals in back-to-back seasons in 2016/17 and 2017/18, and now the club will be beginning their campaign in the cup in early January after Monday’s draw.

Entering the draw at the third round, Tottenham Hotspur have been drawn to face northeast side Middlesbrough away at The Riverside on January 4th, and this is a competition that Jose Mourinho will not want to take lightly, especially seeing as he won it back in 2007 with Chelsea.

When looking at this now, though, the FA Cup has to be one of Mourinho’s first priorities. The main stick that was used to beat Mauricio Pochettino was the fact that he failed to win a trophy at Tottenham, and with Jose in charge, the one thing the fans and the club will be pushing for is silverware.

Can Jose Mourinho win us the FA Cup this season?

No

Yes

It’s hard to argue that, and with the Champions League and the Premier League both supposedly out of the reach of the north London club, the FA Cup has to be the one that Mourinho and Tottenham target, starting away at Boro in one month’s time.
