Transfer News: Tottenham man’s stance on future is unwavering according to latest reports

|

The likes of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are players who a lot of Tottenham fans will be desperate to see tied down to contracts in the next few weeks. The Belgian duo have long been stuck in this contract debacle, but the appointment of Jose Mourinho have smoothed out the issues.

That may be all well and good, and obviously having to bring in two new starting centre-backs would have been far from ideal, so this is certainly good news. However, the fans haven’t quite had the same news in these latest reports on the future of one the Lilywhites other ‘contract rebels’.

That man is Christian Eriksen, although you probably guessed that, and the situation surrounding the Danish midfield man supposedly hasn’t changed. The former Ajax midfielder is a Tottenham player, although in six month’s time his contract will be up and he can leave on a free.

Unlike Vertonghen and Alderweireld, though, it’s claimed he has no intentions of staying in London, despite the Mourinho walking into the hot seat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That’s according to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, and the article states:

‘Sources have told The Athletic that Eriksen definitively told Mourinho he wished to pursue a new challenge after six years in north London. Eriksen is understood to respect Mourinho but the former United manager’s arrival has not altered his personal picture.’

‘Eriksen will continue to give his all for Spurs but given his ultimate ambitions lie elsewhere, it seems clear Mourinho would prefer to use other players. Dele Alli has been rejuvenated in the No 10 role in recent weeks, while Eric Dier, Harry Winks, and Tanguy Ndombele will probably rotate in the deeper midfield roles.’

Will you miss Christian Eriksen?

Yes

No

It seems that Eriksen will still be used by the Lilywhites when he’s required, and his performances won’t take a huge dip under Jose, but his intentions are very clear, and when his contract is up, the 27-year-old will be making an exit, whether the fans or Mourinho like it or not.
