News: The latest on Troy Parrott and why he’s not following in Tanganga’s footsteps

|

The frustrations around Tottenham as of late have been well documented. Losing Harry Kane to injury on New Year’s Day was bad enough, yet now the Lilywhites have also seen Heung-Min Son suffer a major injury, and yet even with the attacking pair out for what looks like the season, we haven’t seen Troy Parrott yet.

The young Irishman is a talented young striker who looks to have the whole world at his feet. However, Jose Mourinho has repeatedly told the media that the youngster just isn’t ready for senior action yet, something that he most recently spouted last week after Son’s injury was confirmed (Football.London).

However, the fans do not seem at all pleased with this and given that there are zero strikers who are fit in the senior side, Parrott is the obvious option. With that in mind, the fans are desperate for him to play, and an article from The Evening Standard shines some light on the situation surrounding Parrott.

The report claims that Mourinho is using his approach to talking about Parrott in the media to get a reaction from the Irishman, hoping that the starlet’s levels in training will improve to the point that his hand is forced to start him, although at the moment that simply isn’t the case.

The article states:

‘Japhet Tanganga has already been a huge success story but, even without a recognised centre-forward, Mourinho is continuing to ignore 18-year-old Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott, repeatedly insisting he is “not ready”.’

Will we see Parrott step up to the plate?

Yes

No

‘The word from Mourinho’s camp is that his comments are a challenge to Parrott, who is yet to respond on the training ground. And Mourinho is also said to believe it is very different playing a youngster at centre-forward than at full-back, where Tanganga has always been assisted by an experienced centre-half in Toby Alderweireld or Jan Vertonghen.’

‘The Irishman has only spent two years in Spurs’ academy and has a lot to learn, but he is highly rated from the boardroom down, and there would seem little to lose in Mourinho including him on the bench, particularly given that Mick McCarthy has shown a willingness to trust him at international level already.’

Mourino will not use Troy Parrot. He has never trusted academy players, he should have been given some playing time earlier in the season No one is ever ready coming up from the academy. They need to be pushed and trusted, allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. Wrong manager for Parrot

Give troy a chance in first team what have we got to lose we haven’t scored for two games how can it be any worse

I don’t believe in Jose thinking, we are not scoring goals without strikers now, so why not give Troy Parrott, we have nothing to lose by giving him a go, plus he will gain 1st team experience, which will give the lad confidence. Look how Tanganga has come on
