Match Thread – Will Spurs Go To War Against The Marines

|

It’s a tasty Cup week for Tottenham Hotspur fans and having seen us book our place at Wembley against Brentford in the EFL Cup, on Sunday we are looking to progress through to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a trip to Marine FC’s Rossett Park.

With an incredibly packed fixture list in the first half of the campaign, manager Jose Mourinho has regularly rotated his first team group and I can only imagine we’ll see even more changes for this one, with a number of fringe players and youth used to get some minutes into their legs, whilst resting others.

This is a game we should be looking to win pretty comfortably, even if it’s likely to be a physical affair and we’ll have to dig in at points. Whatever team is put out, any other result simply won’t be acceptable.

We will be missing Gareth Bale and Giovani Lo Celso, but Matt Doherty’s suspension should be up for this one. Given the whack Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg took, I’d imagine he’ll be given this one off as well.

Just got to get the job done.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

Suprised no one has noticed that Marine beat Colchester on the way to this game, the team that knocked us out of the League Cup last year. Hope Jose reminds the lads of this fiasco when they step out for this one.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Hart, Doherty, Alderweireld, Rodon, Davies (C), Sissoko, White, Gedson, Dele, Lucas, Vinicius.

Gazzaniga Sanchez Tanganga Reguilon Devine Ndombele Clarke Bale Son

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Yes PY. It’s a strong line-up.
And I wasn’t too far off with my suggestions, either… 😉

    Up the Spurs!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

We have just kicked, off yet and I’m loving it already!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    C’mon Marine!

Great shot from the trainee plumber……..

Vicious! 1-0 to the Spurs! Haha!

    C’mon you Spurs!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Sidney V!

Who needs Harry Kane! Sell Son!

    Moura! 3-0!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    God Save The Sid! Hat-Trick!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Jose! … 4-0 up! And please now… can we park the bus?!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

They made a game of it for 20 minutes. Good to see Dele showing somewhere near his best form, his vision of passing is magical when he is in the mood.

    • BelgianSpur says:

…when afforded the time. Not to take away from Dele’s application for this game, but let’s remember who the opposition was. It’s a lot easier to waltz through a back 4, and pick out a good pass, when you’re playing a team from the 8th tier than it is against Virgil Van Dijk.

We all want to see Dele back at or near his best, but I’m afraid this game will tell us nothing valuable in that respect.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I was hoping to see Sissoko having a go at goal when he gets to the edge of the box but as usual he is copping out. 🙁

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I hope to see Bale and Son on at some time…

Good to see Devine and Tanganga on…

Marine for a sexy consolation goal will make me happy…

Up the Lilywhites! (Both of them)!

  • Allan says:

Some way to my 7-0 forecast but agree with HT as it would be good to see them get a goal .

  • 123spurs says:

    Just devine alfie

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Sweet goal from Devine!

There are part-time Marine players that are more experienced than him…

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Clarke and Bale on… What a contrast between these two subs!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Just shows what a valuable player Dele can be, we’ve lost all creativity since he went off.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Respect to Marine.

We had to work for our 5-0…

  • Danny Winter says:

Now I think it’s safe to come from the back of the sofa. That was a cracking game until Alli went off. Very professional from us – cracking effort from Marine and they did deserve their goal.

Given everything going on with Covid, not to chuffed about the BBC applauding the garden swapping that Jurgen Klopp did and the crowd that assembled…but fair play to Marine, especially as their league is paused. That took an effort.

Nice to see more youngsters as well, even though that contributed to the game sliding.

  • wentworth says:

What’s it all About… Alfie? Devine first game. His parents must have cracked open a few bottles. Thought Vinicius was lucky to get MOM…. 2 tap ins and a good left footer. Hmmm? Dele was by far most accomplished and exciting player on the pitch. We were weaker when he left.

Doherty still struggling. Awful passer of the ball. The guy looks depressed and out of his depth. Harvey White looks ok.

    • PompeyYid says:

Wentworth, what you had there, was Dele “doing it” all be it against a 8th tier standard football players, yes I applauded him, but will clap/cheer even harder when he does it against International standard players, as for Sid Vicious getting MOM, a hattrick because he did his job, what he is paid to do, 3 goals, whether tap ins or not, you have to be there, ie following up, so for me it was just.

Mind MOM could have gone to Alfie Devine, youngest player to ever score for Spurs, hid you see his boatrace after he scored, it was a picture, and as my missus said “aw! look at him he’s only a baby” lol!

I/we have to thank the lads and JM for showing respect to the FA Cup and more importantly to Marine FC themselves, well done to all. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I really wish we could find a way of accommodating Dele in the starting eleven, I believe he has more to offer than Bale. We started with a 4231 formation today where he fits well. Have to agree with you WW, Doherty doesn’t look the same player we bought from Wolves, it can only be down to the way he is being asked to play because we don’t see those runs into the box that we used to see at his previous club.
