Match Thread – Will Spurs Go To War Against The Marines

|

It’s a tasty Cup week for Tottenham Hotspur fans and having seen us book our place at Wembley against Brentford in the EFL Cup, on Sunday we are looking to progress through to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a trip to Marine FC’s Rossett Park.

With an incredibly packed fixture list in the first half of the campaign, manager Jose Mourinho has regularly rotated his first team group and I can only imagine we’ll see even more changes for this one, with a number of fringe players and youth used to get some minutes into their legs, whilst resting others.

This is a game we should be looking to win pretty comfortably, even if it’s likely to be a physical affair and we’ll have to dig in at points. Whatever team is put out, any other result simply won’t be acceptable.

We will be missing Gareth Bale and Giovani Lo Celso, but Matt Doherty’s suspension should be up for this one. Given the whack Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg took, I’d imagine he’ll be given this one off as well.

Just got to get the job done.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

If it was this was game of fifa it was on easy mode

Also have you seen all the fans gathering for the team bus arriving, yet the cops done nothing about it

Another great opportunity for us over the rest of this week, we now have 2 very winnable games coming up against Fulham at home and the Blades away at the weekend. Manu have a tough game at Burnley in the week and then face Liverpool away at the weekend. Leicester also have a tough home game against an in form Southampton at the weekend and could easily drop points.

HaHa! love this place, so many different views on players, manager etc showing mostly how every single person see’s games so differently.

Some you read and say…Yeah! other’s you think…where the hell did that come from, complete ends of the spectrum, but in the end every view gets you thinking.

So The Cottagers next then and not The Villans, keep the wins coming and us upwardly mobile lads. COYS

Just to make it clear folks from my point of view.
I did enjoy the game last night and the result and indeed how Dele played.
But it still needs to be remembered the standard of player he was against last night.
As was said on these pages some (not me) suggested he didn’t respect the opposition.
For me it wasn’t enough for him to get directly into the first team anymore than Vinny should replace HK10 or Sonny because he scored a hat trick.
What I was trying to get across was that if we could’ve gotten championship opposition at this juncture it would’ve given our squad players a better challange and JM a better view of how they perform in a more competitive game.
This isn’t to take away from Marine.
However I just thought from the off it was a” damned if we do damned if we don’t situation”
If we beat em by 8 or 9 it’s a fault, in fact someone asked why we only beat em by 5.
If we put out a weakened team it’s a fault. If they were to draw or beat us again it’s a fault.
I do think JM was “classy” in his approach to this game, in whom he selected, his pre and post match comments.
    On to Wednesday
Looks like we’ve fallen on our feet for the Fulham game.
Now would love to see Dele start that one and if he is back on form.

  • Allan says:

Niall I am one of those who sometimes felt that Dele was playing come and get the ball with some of their players which was unnecessary and would have annoyed me if I was on the receiving end .

However we all read the game differently and it is healthy to have such a wide variety of views even if we disagree with some . Long may it last especially if we all respect each other’s view point .

Onto Fulham and it will be interesting to see if Dele might get an outing and if he plays well I will be the first to say well done .

No doubt dele has talent, can be grest on the ball but jose looks st what do you do offnthe ball, which is also part of his tactics,

I’m not disputing your vision of the game, it is your opinion your entitled to it.
My initial reaction was to those who wanted heaven and earth moved to get Dele back on the first team after that performance. For me it was a very good performance but it should be remembered who the opposition were.
I do think he has been a great player and has the capability to be a great player in the future, I was among those who stated that he shouldn’t have been subbed in his previous game.
On on many occasions along with PY have been supportive of him but I have also been critical.
I totally agree with 123’s comments it’s as much his work off the ball rather than when in possession and perhaps a nutmeg or flick to many + his body language when it doesn’t come off.
I would love to see him in the premiership team again.
Doing what he does best, he has been and can be the best British creative midfielder

HT – I find it hugely unfair to suggest that Jose is the one who has turned some Spurs fans against Dele.

Dele did it to himself. Even before Jose was appointed, Dele was a shadow of his former self, and he gave MP close to nothing in MP’s last 12 months in charge. It has nothing to do with JM, but plenty to do with how seriously Dele has been applying himself.

The Amazon documentary came along and JM’s quotes went viral, but the reality is that MP was probably saying the same things to Dele behind closes doors for the better part of 18 months.

    • BelgianSpur says:

And there was already plenty of blame going Dele’s way, on VS and in general, when things started to turn sour for MP.

    • Stan Rosenthal says:

The thing that annoyed some of us here was the way MP kept picking Dele for the team when he was hardly making any contribution – and then kept him on in a game when subbing him made more sense.

Strange that some here are now saying that Dele is being given no chance under Jose when he was given every chance under MP and failed to deliver on so many occasions.

  • BelgianSpur says:

TQ2Spurs – I’m not sure saying that we reached a CL final using more creative players really proves anything.

We reached a CL final with Harry Kane missing for most of the campaign. Should we bench Kane then?

I could go on about how we needed tons of fortune to even reach the final, or how our league and domestic cup form took a massive dip using largely the same tactics – but in then end, it comes back to one simple thing: there are more than 1 way to win a football game.

And results-wise, we’re not exactly doing too bad, currently, even if the style has sometimes been missing.
