Match Thread – Spurs Looking To Fire Against The Foxes

|

Following the disappointing defeat to Liverpool in midweek, Tottenham Hotspur’s confidence shouldn’t have been hit as we didn’t let ourselves down and with some proper officiating or a slice of luck in their box, we’d have taken a well deserved point and we’ll have to be at our best on Sunday as we face an in form Leicester City side.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are only a point behind us in the table as they are enjoying another good year themselves, but again there should be every confidence of taking all three points if we turn up and play how we know we can.

We also have the boost of Gareth Bale being back in training now, so he should come into manager Jose Mourinho’s thoughts for this one – albeit most likely off the bench. Erik Lamela and Japhet Tanganga remain unavailable for now.

This will be another tough tie and with both sides being potent on the counter attack, what actually happens in the game is anyone’s guess.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

Really need a win to stop ‘Pool running away with it again this year. I would be gutted if Manu overtake us as well!

  • Allan says:

Yes TQ it is a little worrying but perhaps last week was a wake up call and has burst our over optimistic bubble ?
However if we can win convincingly tomorrow then we will be happier and be a little more positive
Have decided not to watch as sailing more enjoyable and weather looks good
    Will watch MOTD2
Hope live match is a good watch

5 points between 2nd and 10th. Anything can happen but liVARpool are on a different level. A win is needed. Let’s see how the players react, or how jose will have them set up.

Allan look at you” sailing “lah De dah
As I said Liverpool yesterday against Palace 8 shots on target 7 goals.
We had 6 on target and only one goal thanks to a massive display by their keeper.
If VAR had done its job then we would drawn against Liverpool.
However in both games our possession was no where near good enough and our positive “forward” play needs to improve massively.
Either we have a brilliant signing in Hoj who can help as a defensive mid fielder or we don’t
Let him do that job with the other 4 or 5 and let the rest get on with attacking.
It is now break away time and between now and the first week in January could see a breakaway pack at the top, I want us to be there.
We have the beating of this team, good fortune has seen them get points from us, but we are at home and stinging a bit.
Looking for a win by a decent margin.

It’s not a ‘must win’ game …. just a game that we need to win and cannot afford to lose!! Surely we can’t sit back for 90 minutes and rely on quick breaks? That would really suit Leicester. Come on you Spurs …. PLAY.

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Leicester play a counter attack game too so it could end up a complete stalemate with each side sitting back waiting for the other to make a move. :- )

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Allan, where do you live in the world that has fine ‘sailing’ weather right now? Need any crew?

This has got Spurs losing written all over it, I’m afraid… Which of course means we will win. Doesn’t it?

    Come on You Spurs!

To do (my head in) is to (just) defend… To dare and attack is to win…

    Cockerels 3-1 Foxes!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

No supporters in the ground today… That didn’t last long…

Still, Xmas in London may be cancelled but the PL plays on, regardless.

It seems that the PL might just revert to kind from now on. With the usual suspects slowly picking up some good form. All ‘cept Arsenal. Haha!

Spurs (and the rest) need to keep on the heels of the Pool. And this strange season in these strange times would be all the more interesting, if it can stay as unpredictable in the PL as it has been so far. That will be entertainment enough for me…

I don’t need Spurs to win the League to get my kicks. But if we can push Pool and the rest, all the way to the finishing line, then I can at least enjoy the ride. If not some the football…

But we can play, Jose. We can play! So, let them play!

    Up the Spurs!

  • PompeyYid says:

Its simple for me, no drawn out words….just bloody WIN! COYS

  • Buntingfordyid says:

PY – couldn’t have put it better myself. Be interesting to see how Jose sets up today – cannot see him changing much to be honest. COYS.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Damn, PY! I wish I’d thought of that…

    WIN!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Today’s winning team will be…..

Lloris (C), Aurier, Dier, Alderweireld, Reguilon, Hojbjerg, Sissoko, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Son, Kane.

    In a 1-6-4 formation?!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    SUBS:

Hart Doherty Rodon Davies Winks Bergwijn Lucas Bale Vinicius.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Just a bit off topic… Palace game their goalie made inspired saves, yet Liverpool similar shots goals scored. Again we see teams play above themselves against us but then collapse next game..

Today it two counter attacking teams, so stop vardy getting passes and spurs win the MF battle, with sonny & HK10 clinical finishing again. So a slightly higher line by back defenders, and tactical shape with a poss. flexible 343, spurs 2-0 win COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Just managed to finish wrapping the grandkids Christmas presents before the match started. We are now 30 minutes in and I’m trying to be positive but OMG!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Oh well, look on the bright side, at least it means we will have to show some attacking intent in the second half!

  • Niall D says:

Well, well, well Aurier back to what he does best, lose us games by giving away pens, that must be at least 6 since he joined us, never mind the senseless free kicks. Get rid, Doh has to be better.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Title challenge? Don’t make me laugh. 🙁

    • Carlos Mota says:

Finally all those spurs fans that been waiting for a couple of bad results to get the chance off killing jose they got them , and now want to sack him??? You really forgetting that against Liverpool we lost at last min but also we had a couple of great chances that we could had won the game and do u really forgetting how many years it’s Kloop building his team we had a bad game today it’s true but did we play against a bad team ??? No for the contrary so let’s wait and see where we are at the end of the season not after a couple of bad results like we can over react after a couple of good ones ; give him time and he will bring silverware to our club

  • 123spurs says:

Pathetic, league challenge over in 3 straight games. No way jose.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Are the best team losing Jose?

  • 123spurs says:

Simply not good enough, I called it
