Match Thread – Spurs Looking To Fire Against The Foxes

|

Following the disappointing defeat to Liverpool in midweek, Tottenham Hotspur’s confidence shouldn’t have been hit as we didn’t let ourselves down and with some proper officiating or a slice of luck in their box, we’d have taken a well deserved point and we’ll have to be at our best on Sunday as we face an in form Leicester City side.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are only a point behind us in the table as they are enjoying another good year themselves, but again there should be every confidence of taking all three points if we turn up and play how we know we can.

We also have the boost of Gareth Bale being back in training now, so he should come into manager Jose Mourinho’s thoughts for this one – albeit most likely off the bench. Erik Lamela and Japhet Tanganga remain unavailable for now.

This will be another tough tie and with both sides being potent on the counter attack, what actually happens in the game is anyone’s guess.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

We need to do a North ham on them to get a point

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Can’t wait to hear Jose throw the players under the bus again. Ok, they have to answer for their individual performances but the tactics are the real problem for me.

  • 123spurs says:

    Back to Square 1.

  • 123spurs says:

    Agree TQ 100 %

  • TQ2Spurs says:

The only comment I can make is that Fofana deliberately leaned into the penalty area and didn’t actually put a foot down in the box before dopey took the bait and floored him.

  • Andre says:

Cannot watch those tactics every week and still lose. Makes zero sense. So irritated.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

The natural ability of our players is being stifled under this system, even if he still has any to offer Bale might as well go back to Madrid because he won’t get to show it here.

  • Niall D says:

Well, yet again architects of our own downfall.
And again really didn’t do anything much until we were 2 goals down.
And what we did wasn’t very much.
We looked like we were running through sludge 2nd to every ball and looked like we were playing within ourselves.
Their 2 goals were very much of our making, silly mistakes on our behalf.
Leicester best play was actually their offside goal.
In reality there wasn’t much between either side, but they looked much sharper.
Our build up is either too slow, or lump it forward, we don’t seem to be able to pass through teams or even try the odd worldie.
I know it offends some but by fek we were “Spursy” today.

Oh Dear. That was pretty grim. Slow out of the blocks allowing Leicester to dominate. We never once looked like winning the game. Ridiculous, clumsy, mad moment by Aurier after so many reasonable performances.
What has happened to our free flowing, passing, attacking game? Passing today was poor, movement was poor. I keep saying we need a midfield general who can take hold of the game, pass and score. (Yep, come back Eriksen or Modric)( What a disallowed goal from Maddison!). Disappointed to see N’Dombele subbed unless he was injured. Should have been Lo Celso who keeps falling over.
Looking at the table, we have Man C. , Man U (ugh) and Chelsea with games in hand. We could go from top to eighth in a matter of weeks.
We now have 7 relatively easy games until Leverpool again at the end of Jan 2021 (league and cup). So we have every chance to get back to a top 4 place.
We are no where near good enough to win the league so will it be a cup or will Jose be off with a big pay out.We could end up with nothing and cr@p football.
It certainly isn’t much fun watching Spurs these days. So glad I’m not forking out a fortune to go to WHL stadium.

What a bad game we just saw. Aurier stupid, toby unlucky, ref & VAR mugged us on penalty 2 mins after ref, ignored it and 3 mins after 1 min extra time shown by 4th official. Then there was Harry’s freekick, handball deflection not even looked at, and after this another Leicester player clearly handball as well.

Spurs Players poor passing again, can’t score against 8 players defending, no creative ideas.

Spurs made it easy for Leicester, so blame has to be Jose & players as it seems players were lost in which tactical shape to play. I got the score right but wrong team 🙁

As a fan of some 63 years, I have to apologies to you all for believing that we, Spurs, would be top of the league at Xmas, in all my years a fan I should have known better, as it is we are 3rd but after MU’s game now, if they win, we will be 4th hanging on by our finger nails, with MC having a game in hand which they might/will win, we will then be 5th.

Todays shite sorry game had Everton at home all over it.

But I will add there is still a long way to go, see am hoping again, never change lol! Still COYS though.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

United 2 up against Leeds after 3 minutes, just shows what you can achieve with a positive attitude and some attacking intent.

  • 123spurs says:

Look at Ole go, after we smashed them. Time for jose to have a good ol think now. If he continues like this will go further down the table rather then up.

  • PompeyYid says:

After about first 5mins, I got the impression they wanted it more than we did, battled for everything, we thought we only had to turn up, my impression anyway, even after gifting them 2 goals did we really look like we were going to score, for me it was a big NO!

Bad day at the office, can we kick on from here? are lessons going to be learnt? I bloody well hope so or is it simply back to the drawing board for the team and JM. Still COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

Ah well clinging on by finger nail time is here in 4th position! Still COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Not sure we ever got off the drawing board PY, I think we are still at the rough sketch stage.

United 3 up after 20 now.

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

I think this performance can be partly explained by the ultra defensive games we have been playing catching up with us. Key attacking players, like Kane and Son, have clearly lost their edge from helping out at the back all the time , while our defenders have lost their concentration (and their mind in the case of Aurier) from all that running around. The injury to Lo Celso after our other creative midfield player was subbed then disturbed the balance of the team in the second half and whatever hope we had of coming back was shattered by that own goal, due in part to Sissoko poorly covering as a right back.

Not sure how we can recover from this situation, particularly as Bale seems to have completely lost his mojo and N’Dombele seems to have gone back into his shell. Perhaps a José reset, better luck and a few easy wins against lesser teams might turn the tide but I’m not holding my breath.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Now that everyone has worked out how to play against us it will be interesting to see if Jose has anything else up his sleeve in terms of set up and tactics. I suspect not.

  • Niall D says:

    I agree
We still need that play maker in midfield, we just seem 2nd best against every team currently.
Sissoko looks like he can run fast in straight lines, but ask him to turn or cross the ball, ooohhh feeek.
He is a big unit to get past but we need more.

  • Allan says:

    P.S.

DH I sail out of Poole Dorset . Always looking for crew but some way from Yorkshire ?

I like a happy boat and do not mention footie esp Spurs

However I have a very occasional Arsenal season ticket holder sailing with me and was amazed that we didn’t hammer his poorly performimg side at the new stadium recently rather than defending !!

And that from an Arsenal supporter !!!
