Match Thread – Spurs Looking To Espirito Wolves Away

|

Firstly, I hope all Tottenham Hotspur, and Vital Spurs, fans had a lovely Christmas and the big fat man in a red suit bought you all you desired – albeit for many sadly, not what they wanted with restrictions in place, but we’ll definitely be looking for manager Jose Mourinho to provide more cheer as we head towards 2021 with victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Sunday evening.

With players rested for the EFL Cup clash with Stoke City, we should be in a good place to take victory once again as we travel, but we certainly can’t underestimate Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, even if they have had a bit of a wobbly spell in recent matches.

Tanguy Ndombele is reportedly fit for this one, but Giovani Lo Celso’s hamstring injury will see him out, along with Japhet Tanganga. The jury is out on Gareth Bale from what I’ve seen (which admittedly isn’t much) with the foot injury that saw him substituted at half time in the last one.

Let’s hope we top the Christmas period off in perfect style and take all three points.

    Agreed HT and TQ

Just imagine poch with this team right now.

I remember the games where we pinned teams back and they were afraid to get caught, now we are that team. Son kane Nbelle should do what they do best.

    2 point from 12

  • 123spurs says:

I would call this a “disasterclass”

  • Ekkaboy says:

Mourinho made a massive mistake today that probably cost us the game. In the 70th minute he took off N’Dombele, the best player on the ground, Spurs most constructive player and the most likely player to conjure a goal for us. So, come Daniel Levy, it’s time to come out and publicly slate him, tell him it was a bad decision and it was his fault we lost. Mourinho will understand as he did it only last week to Dele. Someone needs to embarrass him over his negativity otherwise nothing will change.

  • TK says:

Jeez, I posted a comment that simply disappeared.

Not to dare is to don’t. And one thing Spurs don’t do is to play Spurs football any more. Sad to have JM running the team into the ground and sad to see Poch taking his excitment to Paris.

This is one big don’t dare to do. At this point I’d welcome back Harry Redknapp. I can’t imagine the Kane is happy tonight, and as to Son…. So much for the illusory run in first place. JM is managing as though we were in the midst of a cruel relegation fight without enough players fit to don the kit.

  • TK says:

If supporters were allowed to go to matches these days, I’d call for a boycott until there’s a Spurs team playing in the Spurs kit.

  • Spurfect One says:

Kane playing so deep is important to the way we play now, but when you are struggling for goals we need him in the box. Unlucky for us Lo Celso has had injury problem after injury problem and we haven’t seen him play 10 games in a row consistently, i really think him playing where can spends a lot of time and Kane staying up top will work wonders. I can’t remember the last time Kane took 4 or 5 pot shots at goal.

  • PompeyYid says:

Morning all, notice I didn’t say Good!

Well I am now at the end of my tether, I have tried to be positive, I have tried to back JM, stand up for him, I have tried it all, which I apologies for, I am a Spurs fan and always will be, but the time has come for him to either change tactics of play drastically or simply “fuck off” out of my club.

I have said winning a Trophy “anyway” is winning, sorry not any more, after last night’s debarcle I am afraid it is the last straw for me, I will not get personal about JM, because I do not know him, tv wise he his the pantomime baddie, he may be a nice geezer really but football wise he is as other’s have said “he is dated and lives in the past” so again JM change your/our ways or as above from my club.

This defending a 1 goal lead lark, what is that all about, with only 1 goal it means dirty pants time, leaves the team open, to one cock up, one poor bit of marking from a set play, one bit of bad luck etc thus dropping points as we have in 3 of the last 4 games, there are others, so we get 2pts from a poss 12, for me that’s relegation form, drastic you may say but hey it is staring us in the face more so if this carries on.

Along with this defending lark it looks to me that we are forgetting how to attack, ie having to think about everything that would normally have come natural, thus lose the ball/get caught in possession and not to mention the absolute crap passing of the ball to each other.

Well I am as bored with this as I was watching a bloody predictable “paint dry” game last night. But Still COYS.

  • block 108 spurs says:

As others have said… We were gradually getting poor after the first 15 mins. and wolves got their confidence building up. Seems like that a number of spurs players have lost form or confidence, at the same time and playing in that terrible dark green kit they cant see each other as passes were to opposition or underhit / overhit. Winks messed up a few times, and we did not pick or stop their runners. Jose had tried 4231again yet it was a disaster, and wolves were 442 mostly and tried the fouling and diving in first 20 mins to disrupt us// it worked. Their goal resulted in too many corners given away and no player on the back post. Jose got the team / subs. wrong on this game.

This was not the effective defending football or attacking play, it looked like a mix up with players confused. So Jose has to be clear instructions and players to be able to adapt to seeing harry / sonny doubled marked and make the runs / passes to spaces available by the opposition tactical movement. COYS

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Can’t be good for their confidence when they are continually blamed for everything by the manager.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I see Teflon Jose has pinned the blame on the players again, this was part of his post match briefing:

After the game, Mourinho said it was never his intention to defend the slender lead and instead questioned his players for not showing more ambition to go for more goals.

He told BBC Sport: “Defending deep, that’s not the intention. They know what I asked them at half-time, if they couldn’t do better it’s because they couldn’t do better.”

    Familiar pattern emerging here!

  • block 108 spurs says:

TQ2…. exactly as I said in my last paragraph above… Like I said before with poch… its the players on the pitch who have to do their job, and the manager to prepare them. When both are on the same “page” we win, if not we lose, or scrape a draw.

  • Allan says:

Mourinho is now saying that he didn’t want us to play deep and told that to the team at HT .

He then went onto say that the players were not capable of scoring another goal !!

Is he now saying that the players are not good enough ?

Now we have to ask haven’t his tactics since the Man c and Chelsea games been all about defence as match statistics have showed ?

He has persuaded the team to play like that and the players are reverting to his style of play .

Most teams we have played this season appear well organised and work as a team and pass it to their own players .

Although I hate our style of play I will grudgingly support him , esp if we can win something which at present looks highly unlikely . However if this style of play continues for the remainder of the season then get rid and find someone who is capable of getting the side to play as a team .

We on the other hand don’t appear to play as a team but rely on individual performances

  • Allan says:

Last sentence ought to have gone before last paragraph .

Either my age or frustration at our recent performances !!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

My optimism on here before the kick-off was genuine, even if it was OTT. But, even though I didn’t fully believe that we would out and out attack them for the 90 minutes or indeed thrash them, I did think that Jose would surely approach this match in a more positive way.

Leading up to this recent drop of form, I was happy with the team vs City, Chelsea and Arsenal. Even though we were so defensive. Because not only were we defending brilliantly, we looked a danger every time we countered and got near the oppositions box. But when we set up against teams like Palace and Wolves, (even the Foxes), in the same fashion as to the likes of City etc., then I am frustrated as hell… Whereby even an away day draw feels like a humiliating loss. Humiliating because of the talented team we have… We could be so much better than this…

Some have blamed certain players for this poor run. Well, players will make mistakes. And the odds on making such mistakes are increased significantly the way we set up. They become almost inevitable…

But I don’t think anyone in our defence had a bad game. They defended strongly once again. But we have forgotten how to attack… Kane and Son look tired. And then, even our attack-minded subs are used by Jose just to close games out…

I don’t know what to say other than surely we must improve again after this… We can’t make hard work of Fulham can we?

  • Allan says:

I have read a report from Italy that we are considering an Ericksen return !!!

    Surely not ?

  • PompeyYid says:

Morning HT, I see we are quite like minded here, you say “we have forgotten how to attack” ditto my earlier post, and I believe it is a major problem.

We do defend well, but the reality is, constant defense whilst only 1 goal to the good leaves you wide open to one singular mistake/error of judgement, thus dropping points. Still COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Hi PY.
Yes, and to be fair, others on here have been saying pretty much the same (for a few weeks now) about us forgetting how to attack etc…

It really does seem that way… We have no balance between defending, and then our midfield transitions into attack. Jose’s defensive brainwashing is complete. He now needs to click a finger and get them out of their trance-like state. You know, it’s like they’ve been hypnotised…

  • wentworth says:

Interestingly, Mourinho blames the players when he sets up an ultra defensive team. Why can he not come clean and tell the truth?….”I messed up.It was my fault. I had no enthusiasm to get off my comfy seat and drive the players forward. I set the team up wrong and gave the wrong message”.I couldn’t blame the players that stuck rigidly to Jose’s game plan. It might have come off but we did not deserve to win. All the bright attacking football came from Wolves and eventually they got their deserved point.
Jose takes off our only creative player (Man of the Match) and brings on players to close the game out. Jose messed up. Admit it.
The players are obviously being told how to play and what to do. Just look at the 5 minutes Jose took with his folder of plans showing Bergwijn where to stand, where to go and what to do. He’s a professional footballer/ striker not not some schoolkid lining up for lunch. Bergwijn looked totally bemused and bored by the time he eventually came on.
The commentator “expert” on tv (Andy Townsend) stated that Spurs were constantly passing the ball backwards as our coach sat slumped in his chair. FFS get up man and show some enthusiasm.
Mourinho is a bore. Our team has become a bore. The players look bored. The supporters are bored. If we win a trophy (luck is on our side..Brentford and Marine), so what. It will be a hollow victory unless something changes dramatically. I just hope Levy has the guts to tell Mourinho that he has to change his tactics. Everyone else seems to be afraid of Mourinho’s temper and stubbornness.
One day, hopefully soon, Mourinho will be gone to another temporary retirement and a huge pay off. I for one will celebrate whatever the circumstances.

  • TK says:

    Fora José. Vai embora Mourinho.

You’re spent. Get bent. Go away, José. Take you’re negativity to a club that like to play that way. Try Stoke next. You can ride them to relegation after relegation with 0 x 1 losses.

Our players no longer know how to dare, so they don’t.

Fora José. Vai embora come sua negatividade. Ousar é fazer e você está o contrario. Sempre.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    BUT!

Call me a fool or call me out for all my contradictions this season… But I still think that we can achieve something good this season. But we need to turn it around post-haste…

We are still in all 4 competitions. And the PL (at the top) is still wide open…

    AND!

I do still want JM to succeed at Spurs… So pull yer finger out Jose. The potential is there. Now bloody well use it!

    • PompeyYid says:

Hey HT, we agree there, the truest bit is “So pull your finger out Jose” that has to happen! simple as that, if he listens something good will be achieved. COYS

  • TK says:

bastante é bastante, Seu José. You have overstayed your stay. For you, there should not be another day. Go away. You do not understand the Spurs way. It’s not okay. Go away.
