Match Thread – Spurs Looking To Espirito Wolves Away

|

Firstly, I hope all Tottenham Hotspur, and Vital Spurs, fans had a lovely Christmas and the big fat man in a red suit bought you all you desired – albeit for many sadly, not what they wanted with restrictions in place, but we’ll definitely be looking for manager Jose Mourinho to provide more cheer as we head towards 2021 with victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Sunday evening.

With players rested for the EFL Cup clash with Stoke City, we should be in a good place to take victory once again as we travel, but we certainly can’t underestimate Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, even if they have had a bit of a wobbly spell in recent matches.

Tanguy Ndombele is reportedly fit for this one, but Giovani Lo Celso’s hamstring injury will see him out, along with Japhet Tanganga. The jury is out on Gareth Bale from what I’ve seen (which admittedly isn’t much) with the foot injury that saw him substituted at half time in the last one.

Let’s hope we top the Christmas period off in perfect style and take all three points.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

Stan …. Isn’t becoming defensive the reason we threw away a 3 goal lead?

Our very own “Marmite man” has us all talking/chatting with our very on opinion of him, helping to keep VS alive and well.

Stan, I am with you there, well hopefully anyway, that his “Marmite man” approach will swing the other way, and be more balanced. COYS

Im definitely in the wanting to enjoy my team playing football then this in the hope that we win a trophy, the trade off is definitely not worth it, watching my team winning a trophy without enjoying watching the journey. The sooner he leaves the better for me.

TK – I am not disputing your opinion on JM.

But I just think you lack objectivity when:

    on one hand, you’re willing to talk up MP’s achievements, saying we were one penalty away from winning the CL – which is let’s be honest, a hugely optimisitc way of looking at the situation;

and on the other, expecting Jose to lose in all of the competitions we’re involved in, despite being in a relatively good position in most, and him having a track record of being able to see his teams over the line.

With regards to MP, I could point out the VAR moments which saved us both against City and Ajax in the earlier rounds of the CL, having to rely on the very last kick of the game to even make the final against Ajax, seeing an abysmal run of results, CL aside, in 3 different competitions in MP’s last 12 months, and I could go on. That would probably be painting a darker picture than it needs to be, but all of those things are true and happened.

With regards to Jose, we could yet go on to win 4 trophies this year, however improbable that may be. That’s far too optimisitc, but surely we can’t really criticise Jose too much for results until he is actually out of the running in those competitions?

As PY has said, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

I am all for holding Jose accountable, and criticising him if and when it all goes sour.

But I just find it hugely premature based on our current standing in the competitions we’re involved in, on the back of a couple disappointing results.

As Niall has pointed out, every single one of our rivals is failing to put a decent run of results together at the moment. Could it simply be that this season is really tough given the condensed schedule, and that the recent results are also partly down to the specific circumstances of this season?

Once again you seem to be missing the point…

Some of us… Actually many of us, are talking about the style of football being played, along with the poor treatment of some of the players as well… and not simply the results…

Others (not myself) have been complaining about our style of football under Jose all throughout the season.

And I repeat, we didn’t lose to Wolves. And yet you would think they had thrashed us by some of the reactions. This is more than meaningful…

Imagine for a moment that Covid has gone and our ground will be open to capacity tomorrow night… Now imagine the game panning out the same way as the Wolves and Palace matches. Now Imagine the supporters response to it….

It’s cold, probably wet and you’ve spent close to a hundred quid or more to watch what?! Kane and Son falling over a lot. Hojbjerg giving away yet another free kick and Ndombele being the star player that can just about make it to the 60 minute mark, is taken off and the last spark of anything creative is now on the bench and the rest of them are too knackered from defending to perform blah blah…

I’d rather spend my money on a thousand mince pies and a bottle of Remy Martin thank you. Be warm and snug in front of a sentimental old back n white movie that makes me cry for all the right reasons…. Not out of frustration and boredom or wasting time and good money in N17 in the cold and wet!

It’s tough enough to take, in front oF a fire and watching it for free! LOL!

I know this for sure…… There would be booing in the ground and at the next match, empty seats…… And for the first time ever, I might just be tempted to boo myself. And the journey back to South London for me, would be a miserable one for sure… And we didn’t even lose!

  • BelgianSpur says:

HT – in the end, you’re never going to please the whole fan base either way – that is the only valid conclusion.

There was booing in the stands when we’d fail to get a result under MP with 80% of possession. And you know that’s true. That’s just the fickle nature of fans.

There were unhappy players under MP too (Toby wouldn’t have signed an extension, for example).

I for one am happy to see a manager hold players accountable for attitude and performance. That has nothing to do with results. They get handsomely paid to perform for the club, and if they don’t, they should know about it. We can have minor remarks about the methods, but not the accountability itself. And I know I’m not the only one thinking that either.

Again, you may not want to spend money to see Jose’s style of management, but why is it so hard to accept that others might be?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

BS….if I instructed you to assemble your meccano crane with 2mm bolts and it wobbles and collapses because it should have been 3mm bolts who is accountable? Is it you because you assembled it or me because I gave you the wrong information?
