Match Thread – Bragging Rights, NLD, Arsenal, Then Spurs Look To Liverpool & The Table

|

It’s that time of the week again for Tottenham Hotspur fans, but on Sunday we can look forward to the home leg of the North London Derby as we welcome locals Arsenal to White Hart Lane.

With Europa League frustration again dominating the week, taking top spot in Group J is in our hands based on the Royal Antwerp clash, but in probably more important news, fans have had their eyes on whether or not talismanic Harry Kane would be passed fit for Sunday given the ‘unspecified knock’ he has picked up.

Chances are he’ll face the Gooners as he doesn’t miss many but PhysioRoom’s weekly table doesn’t make for good reading with their information listing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Erik Lamela still missing this game, but late fitness tests will apply to Carlos Vinicius, Sergio Reguilon and Toby Alderweireld.

Everyone knows what this game means and our Premier League form remains good, so manager Jose Mourinho will want to keep his record of never losing to Arsenal on home soil intact.

We also know what it means for the battle at the top of the table. If Liverpool slip up and we don’t, there’s daylight.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

    HT re Doh
I’m not a medical person beyond advanced first aid.
But have heard some youngsters 18+ coming out with this long COVID thingy where they say they had no symptoms when tested but then felt terrible tired, breathless sometime after they were given the “all clear”, as you say we have doctors and medics for that.
Again as you stated we.didnt lose on Thursday and it is difficult in Europe. I suppose it was just the performance.
    Hopefully you’ll get the Cinzano.
Like many wouldve preferred to see N’Dombers on but, still a good line up.
    COYS.

First half of todays double completed with our ladies getting their first win of the season under our new coach.

  • Geofspurs says:

Squeaky bum time! Two early goals would be nice as long as Jose doesn’t become intent on simply protecting the lead. Enjoy the game, lads. : – )

  • Hot Tottingham says:

The link I have is from Deutschland. What’s Harry Kane, in German?

And what’s weird is there are supporters in the ground! 😉

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    HOWZAT!

Kane to Son… and.. Wham Bam thank you man!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    HOWZAT!

Son to Kane… And… WHAM BAM thank you man!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

With our live vocal support back at last… And with them singing the old Baaale Baaale chant, does he then get on the pitch and create some good ol’ Bale magic?

    Why not Jose? Why not?

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    A game of two halves…

But our first half was much better than their second half.

No thrashing. No Bale. No worries…

Another clean sheet. Another Kane and Son show. 2-0. 3 points.

Ya ya, das ist gut… No?

  • Hot Tottingham says:

So good to see the players so happy… So good to see the support. So good to see the players applauding the support once more…

    Gotta love Spurs!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Well…..they passed the acid test and reclaimed top spot.

Sorry HT, no Cinzano this time but I guess you’re happy with a 2-0 win 🙂

  • Hot Tottingham says:

That’s okay TQ… I’ll celebrate quietly with a cool glass of fizzy eau!

And tomorrow I shall walk the streets of South London and see if I can find the odd sad Gooner to brag to…

It’ll be a tough task though, because they’ll probably all be at home self isolating I would imagine…

  • TQ2Spurs says:

It’s a good job the teams change ends at half time otherwise one end of the pitch would be thread bare and the other virtually pristine. :- )

  • Geofspurs says:

Sometimes you can enjoy the game but not the result and sometimes you can enjoy the result but not the game. The second half of this one was very hard to watch but the final result was pleasing.

  • 123spurs says:

    Job done

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Perversely, I enjoyed the second half as much as the first.

In the first half I enjoyed two fantastic goals and being pretty much safe n sound. In the second half I revelled in our back-to -the-wall, defending.

To see them barely get a sniff on goal with all of that possession, makes me happy…

It was pretty inevitable that they would improve in the 2nd 45 and that Jose would set us to defend. Once I accepted that, my love for defending like troopers comes into effect…

(As long as we win of course)… 🙂

    • TQ2Spurs says:

HT…..I wasn’t sure Aubameyang was still on the pitch, Toby and Eric only gave him one sniff in the whole match.

  • 123spurs says:

True Geoff 2nd half wasn’t great to watch, but if we attacked more they might of scored. Clean sheets against city Chelsea and arsenal.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

It could be a psychological blow to Liverpool, they probably expected to go top again this evening. Come on you Wolves! 🙂

  • Niall D says:

Well we’ve beat Man U, Man C, got a point away at Chelsea, just beat Arsenal.
Now someone said a few weeks ago we were in a false position being top of the league.
We’ll now I beg to differ 7 from a possible 9 points against the big guys.
I know it wasn’t a classic Spurs Cavalier watch.
But I’ll take it, it is a bit of a hard watch.
However I felt that at no stage we were under pressure today.
Come on, they had 2 shots on goal.
I’m starting to really respect JM’s tactics and I have a rye smile on my face.
It is in a perverse way enjoyable.
Good to see/hear the crowds back. Well done great volume.
The team are buying into JM’s tactics and are very happy
Some unusual heroes here, Siss, Hoj, Aurier, as well as the usual HK and Sonny(what a goal no hit and hope there)
To the recently ” absent” nay sayers I have one word.
    BELIEVE.

  • Allan says:

An excellent 3 points but the better team lost !!

Brilliant goals from Sonny and Harry however ….

I remember posters were moaning during the Poch era the number of teams who parked the bus and left us frustrated especially if they scored a late goal !!

I’m sure I will be shot down for my comments but I am attempting to view some of our performances especially this one objectively

I’m sorry guys that was a pathetically poor performance . As usual couldn’t punch our way out of a paper bag ?

The only team work we are good at is defending and even then they had chances . The other is the breakaway !!

Don’t get me wrong I would be delighted if we won the league and or a cup but if through negative tactics then I will reluctantly have to accept it !!

I was left totally frustrated at our lack of control and long balls to no one ??

But then another clean sheet and 7 points from 3 very good teams .

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Only one problem with your reasoning Niall, how do you explain our dire Europa performances? :- )
