Match Thread – Bragging Rights, NLD, Arsenal, Then Spurs Look To Liverpool & The Table

|

It’s that time of the week again for Tottenham Hotspur fans, but on Sunday we can look forward to the home leg of the North London Derby as we welcome locals Arsenal to White Hart Lane.

With Europa League frustration again dominating the week, taking top spot in Group J is in our hands based on the Royal Antwerp clash, but in probably more important news, fans have had their eyes on whether or not talismanic Harry Kane would be passed fit for Sunday given the ‘unspecified knock’ he has picked up.

Chances are he’ll face the Gooners as he doesn’t miss many but PhysioRoom’s weekly table doesn’t make for good reading with their information listing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Erik Lamela still missing this game, but late fitness tests will apply to Carlos Vinicius, Sergio Reguilon and Toby Alderweireld.

Everyone knows what this game means and our Premier League form remains good, so manager Jose Mourinho will want to keep his record of never losing to Arsenal on home soil intact.

We also know what it means for the battle at the top of the table. If Liverpool slip up and we don’t, there’s daylight.

    BS
    Good post
I think last week against Lask some players were slightly out of position.
It was the first time the much talked about LoCeslo/N’Dombers partnership was tried out.
Tananga and Dave Havnt played much together, Doh had a bad day at the office following his COVID diagnosis..
But as you say we are through regardless, but I think it’s in JM’s Physice to want to top the group.
    TQ
I suppose it depends which side of the fence you’re on, If you’re a losing CL club, you get another bite at the cherry, if you’re a winning EL club, the competition (potentially) becomes more difficult.
But I suppose it does give more kuedos to the game and for TV makes it more watchable.
I’m a bit on your side ref this, why do they get a 2nd chance, but I suppose them’s the rules.
And it could be us some year.

Niall…….it just makes more money for UEFA by keeping some of the glamour clubs in competiton for longer to make it more attractive to broadcasters.

It seems to me that when you analyse the way Jose defends in a game the second goal is crucial. If you are only one in front its always possible the opposition can score through skill or luck. If it happens late on then you may have no time to react. Once you are two in front then if the opposition get one back you are still winning the game and have a chance to react to what has just happened. So the test will be what happens when we go two in front and the opposition score. Looking back on Mourinho’s career I’d predict a reaction and change of tactics is likely to be immediate.

TQ that’s sort of what I was alluding to, mentioning TV rights.
Yep m8 it’s all about making big money (for big teams) and keeping them(European teams) popular on the “world stage”.
Hi Jod I think perhaps your point was borne out buy JM’s use of subs on Sunday.
He went for the likes of Rodon. As he felt he had the win in the bag.
Where by had The Gooners got one back, he had Bale and Vinny to bring on.
However this now leaves them fresh with N’Dombers for Thursday nite.

Niall…..reports I’ve read suggest Ndombele won’t be ready or maybe risked on Thursday and saved for the Palace game on Sunday. I guess it comes back to Belgians question about Jose’s wish to win the group or not. I’d rather not see Hojbjerg playing on Thursday or we’ll end up burning him out, he was outstanding against the Gooners but needs to recover having played last Thursday as well.

Great result on Sunday – long may they continue hopefully!

Good solid defending (even Aurier and credit where it’s due here as he’s been RB against Utd, City, Chelskia and Arseanal and that’s 3 wins, 1 draw and only 1 goal conceeded) and what can anyone say about Sonny and HK10 – absolutely ridiculous but I’ve said for a long while that Sonny was world class and also most recently that HK10 is arguably at the moment (especially in current form) the best striker even player in the World let alone the Prem so says it all really!

Tomorrow we obviously defo need to rotate and certain players really need minutes also so good opportunity to fulfill this:

Hart, Fagan-Walcott, Davy, Tanganga, Cirkin, Winks, White, Dele, Clarke, Bale and Vinny.

For 8 days from Sunday we’ve got Palace away, Liverpool away and Leicester at home – so we need the heavy hitters resting obviously tomorrow night (especially after the recent run of games v City, Chelskia and Arseanal all in the Prem) and it’s also a good opportunity to help fire up the likes of Hart, Davy, Tanganga, Winks, Bale, Vinny and maybe even Dele as they could very easily most if not all be needed in those games in 8 days coming and then there’s the Stoke game in the QF of CC and then the actual not as heavy Xmas schedule as usual luckily later this month – I mean there’s actually a decent space-out for us between Wolves, Fulham and Leeds – at least minimum we get a full 2 days rest in between each one as opposed to having to play 2 games in literally 3 days with only 1 days rest as is normally the case around Xmas and Boxing Day, etc – it could make quite a difference to our results and we’ve also got a bigger, better squad now and we’re doing well on top of that – so all should bode well really and most hopefully!

Anyway off again – will try to check back for replies, etc and maybe try to post again at the weekend or so!
