Have Your Say: “Let’s Have No Excuses” – Some Realism & Doom After Spurs Embarrassment

Let’s have no excuses, no attempt to find extenuating circumstances, this result brings shame on MP, his team, and this great club.

We have seen highs and lows in our history, I know I have witnessed most of them in my nearly 70 years as a Spurs supporter, but I never dreamt I would live long enough to be around when we are humiliated, destroyed, and demolished to this extent.

I am among the first to criticise the clubs transfer policies, team selection, and our playing without passion, craft, and intensity, but this is more serious than any of that, as deficient as it maybe, this squad is better than this, this result highlights a far far greater and fundamental problem than any of that.

This suggests the manager and his team are unable or willing to compete, they have no pride in themselves, the club, and most importantly the supporters, they capitulated.

I don’t know where we go from here, how we recover, and what changes are needed in the management team and playing personnel at the earliest convenience, to ensure there is no repeat of this disgraceful humiliation.

We could play a team of U18 or U23 youngsters and they wouldn’t get beaten to this extent, at least they would show respect for the shirt, and the club, and its supporters, and fight, something that this team of “stars” are unwilling, unable and are not prepared to do.

I would imagine I will get stick for this post, but it is time we faced reality and said what needs saying. God knows how this season will end, we have lost to a League 2 side in the EFL Cup, effectively eliminated ourselves from the CL, and unless results improve in the PL we are unlikely to finish in the top 4, although this, on the evidence of Tuesday’s performance, wouldn’t be a bad thing.

We can no longer be expectant or confident at the likelihood of beating anyone. Surely Pochettino won’t give interviews or press conferences claiming to take positives from this total disaster. What makes all of this worse is that this has occurred in a home tie.
