With long forgotten striker Vincent Janssen coming back into manager Mauricio Pochettino’s thoughts at Tottenham Hotspur, he now has two games under his belt in the campaign of 2018/19.
The 24-year-old made the switch from AZ Alkmaar for a reported £17million back in the summer of 2016, but he never really adjusted to life at the club and quickly fell out of favour. His record since his arrival reads 12 starts, 29 substitute showings and a return of six goals.
Having reappeared on the bench after overcoming injury and spending last season out with Fenerbahce, he got a small runout against Brighton and Hove Albion, and another showing against West Ham United and when you compare his impact to Fernando Llorente in the game, Janssen can consider himself unlucky to have not found the back of the net.
Llorente obviously provides a different aerial threat but as Whoscored statistic from the game show, in fewer minutes Jansson notched up three efforts in ten touches, compared to zero from Llorente. Llorente did win four aerials, compared to Janssen’s zero.
Fans are more focused on chances at goal, especially after a match and defeat like that and given Janssen was only on the pitch for 14 minutes, the fact he finished the match as second to Sonny in the shot stakes, a lot of fans understandably want him to get more of a crack now.
Such a frustrating game today, it’s a derby, oppositions cup final and a chance for our players to put their name in the mix for Tuesday & not one of them did, except Janssen actually. Made an impact and unlucky not to score. #Thfc #THFC #Spurs #COYS

Also, Janssen should have been our first sub on today, looked sharp last game. Bought on too late by Poch to make a difference, almost did at the end though. Most players just didn't seem up for it in the second half. #THFC #COYS

Thought Janssen had nicked that point. So disappointing. Tuesday could be really ugly. #THFC #COYS

Janssen deserves a chance at least. Let’s not forget what he did at AZ.
