Former Spurs manager is mad to suggest club aren’t in desperate need of new signings – Opinion

|

Tottenham fans were relieved this summer when the club, after 18 long months, finally brought in some new faces.

Tanguy Ndombele was signed for a club-record fee as reported by BBC Sport and Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon were late-deadline deals to round off Spurs’ summer spending, yet just a few months on after the transfer window, it has become apparent the Mauricio Pochettino needs more.

Last season’s Champions League finalists currently find themselves seventh in the Premier League table after nine games, and collapses against the likes of Bayern Munich and Brighton have supporters questioning the Tottenham manager for the first time in his tenure at the club.

Yet despite a poor year, former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes that his old club dont need any new signings as we approach the January window, and that they should stick it out with what they currently have.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the former Birmingham City boss said: “Where (would you make signings)? When I look at the team, they are full of good players everywhere. It is the same group of players, but one or two are not playing as well.”

Redknapp is often regarded as an intelligent manager, yet to suggest that Tottenham don’t need any new signings is both ludicrous and something the club should not listen to heading into the January transfer window.

Results and performances have been way too poor this season for Pochettino and Daniel Levy to do nothing to address it, and with the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen all approaching the end of their contracts next summer as figures from Transfermarkt show and neither player looking likely to renew, Tottenham could be in for a busy January having to bring in new names to fill vital positions.

This season has proven that Spurs have failed to address a stale squad, and signings in the next transfer window will be needed if the club wants to make it five seasons-in-a-row finishing in a Champions League spot.
