Eric Dier underperformed as Tottenham suffered a 1-0 defeat to West Ham United on Saturday and was lambasted by supporters on social media. The defensive-midfielder has endured had a forgettable year due to inconsistency and fitness woes, and latest his showing against the Hammers proved he’s not over his 2019 hell.

Dier Eriksen alli are the blame for this result. Sloppy passing & caught on the ball constantly killing attacks and also applying pressure on our rear guard.#THFC

Dier, Sanchez and Davies were arwful! Loved Jansen's effort! But why bring him off, if Rose is not crossing the ball? Toby Alderweireld also looked poor. #THFC #COYS

What a poor performance, can’t wait to see the back of the likes of Eric Dier. Need a whole new midfield in the summer #THFC

Despite no goals, a good performance so far. Son, Eriksen, and Dier have been poor so far. Defending has been brilliant. I'm not a fan of Ben Davies but he has been PoM so far for me. #COYS #THFC

Against West Ham, Dier played a full 90 minutes, made 96 touches, 84 passes with 89% accuracy, created one chance, made two interceptions, one clearance, blocked one shot, gave away one foul, won four aerial duels and made one successful dribble. Mauricio Pochettino selected Dier at the foot of a diamond containing Danny Rose, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli.
Game time has been hard to come by for Dier. The 25-year-old has made 24 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season, only seven of which have come since the turn of the year. Dier has suffered from a series of injuries which have limited his playing time and forced Pochettino to turn to Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks in midfield.
Tottenham’s failure to replace Mousa Dembele is likely to be scrutinised by fans after the defeat to West Ham, especially when Dier puts in a below-par showing.
