The club have confirmed that they have taken up their option to keep Michel Vorm for another year.
The keeper’s contract was due to run out at the end of June with many assuming that the Dutchman’s time with us had come to an end. However, the 34-year-old will now remain backup to Hugo Lloris for one more season at least.
Supporters on Twitter were pretty indifferent to the Vorm announcement:
Did not see that coming, I thought he was going somewhere else.

Verdict:
To be honest, I’m a bit surprised. The former Dutch international is a pretty solid backup, but Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of Paulo Gazzaniga.
I would have expected our current third choice to have moved up the pecking order next season. That may still happen with Vorm dropping down behind the Argentinian, but we will have to wait and see what happens.
Reports had also indicated we could have made a move for Manchester United’s Sam Johnstone this summer. He is reportedly looking to leave Old Trafford following 18 months as Aston Villa’s number one on loan, but that doesn’t look likely now.
