On Tuesday, Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy confirmed his extended 39 man squad for their upcoming friendly against New Zealand, with the Euro 2020 qualifier against Denmark to follow, and highly rated Tottenham Hotspur youngster Troy Parrott again found himself in the squad.
Having received the call up for the October break, with only one competitive game under his belt in 2019/20, the 17-year-old didn’t make the final cut, but speaking to the BBC recently, McCarthy did more strongly hint that his chance would now come in the next international window.
🇮🇪 Congratulations to @troyparrott9 who has been named in @FAIreland's latest squad! 👏#THFC ⚪️ #COYS https://t.co/5bJpYN7xnK

“It could be the perfect opportunity to have a look at Troy Parrott for example and see how he makes the step-up to senior international football after impressing so many people at underage level with Ireland and Spurs. We know what we have to do against Denmark and we will look to the tried and the trusted to win that game but who knows what will happen against New Zealand. Maybe someone will take their chance in that match and give me something to think about.”
As McCarthy points to, with so much riding on the Denmark match for the Irish, Parrott’s involvement there will be limited at best, but the New Zealand selection is far more open to debate and it is an opportunity for him to seriously impress and maybe come into their thoughts more for the qualifier, in terms of a spot on the substitutes bench.

Be alright if he made it into our squad too. Especially over the likes of Christian ' I want a new challenge ' Eriksen. #COYS #THFC
