Most pundits had tipped Manchester City for success in the Champions League quarter-finals yesterday evening as Tottenham Hotspur welcomed them to the new White Hart Lane for the game, but even those backing manager Mauricio Pochettino’s side to cause an upset knew the side would have to answer some tough questions.
Win when the pressure was on, perform when it mattered – it didn’t matter how you phrased it, even the most optimistic fan knew we’d have to be at our best.
With a few talking points coming out of the match that we eventually took a 1-0 advantage in owing to Son Heung-Min’s late winner, the penalty decision awarded by the Video Assistant Referee was a massively controversial moment early on in the game.
With referees and former referees defending their ilk, others are continuing to slam the poor and soft decision, but ultimately it worked in our favour and probably helped our belief on the day as Hugo Lloris answered some of his own critics with a third spot-kick save of the season.
Having come in for plenty of criticism of late, it was nice to see Lloris and Rose taking the plaudits post game with fans rallying around them.
Justice done with that save #THFC #COYS

A truly shocking decision. No way this is a step forward in the game & to book Rose is a travesty. Surely handball has to be deliberately. Great save though. #THFC

#VAR decisions on hand ball should be reviewed at real time speed… No kidding it looks deliberate when you slow it down to a frame per second#THFC #UCL
