A look back in history – Spurs vs Eintracht Frankfurt

|

Tomorrow night, Spurs face off in an important Champion’s League tie against current Europa League holders Eintracht Frankfurt. The Lilywhites currently sit second in the group, level on points with the German side.

When looking back, to find out the last and only time these two sides have met, you would have to go all the way back to 1982, in which the two sides faced off in the quarter finals of the Cup Winners Cup – today’s equivalent of the Europa League.

A Frankfurt side containing South-Korean legend Beom-Geun Cha visited a Spurs side littered with stars, including Glenn Hoddle, Steve Archibald and Osvaldo Ardiles – to name a few.

Spurs would win the first leg, winning 2-0 with goals from Paul Miller and Micky Hazard.

However, in the second leg Spurs would go 2-0 down – after two early first half goals – only to be rescued by an 80th minute Hoddle goal – which sent the Lilywhites through 3-2 on aggregate.

Do you remember this game?

That win setup a semi-final clash with European giants FC Barcelona. Sadly, though Spurs would fall to the eventual winners of the competition, 2-1 on aggregate.

123 It appears that all games seem to be must win games !
After an excellent final few games of last season the side needs its wheel nuts tightening but is Conte willing to try different personnel or a different formation ?
Why buy Bissouma and Spence and not use them ? He obviuosly doesn’t rate them so why are they at the club ? To persist with Emerson is a complete mystery when looking at his stats . There is also an interesting stat on Lloris h ighlighting that he makes proportionately more mistakes vs the top 6 sidea than against the rest of the division . Although making good and important saves in many matches his mistake last weekend was partly responsible for us losing the game .
