With ongoing speculation about the future of Tottenham Hotspur centre-half Toby Alderweireld, all Spurs fans actually know for sure is that the 29-year-old Belgian international is contracted up until the end of the 2019/20 campaign – but for a portion of this summer’s transfer window, there is a £25million buyout clause involved owing to the 12 month extension we kicked in the other month.
Despite the claims surrounding the ultimately failed move to Manchester United last summer, despite the speculation, Alderweireld hasn’t once spoken of not being happy at the club to the best of my knowledge – often stating the exact opposite – and that has been strongly backed up by his performances for manager Mauricio Pochettino so far in 2018/19.
Whilst the speculation continues and any new deal doesn’t reach an agreement and goes unsigned, fans are clearly going to take as many chances as they can to gently encourage him to remain with us.
