“We Are Waiting” – Club Confirm Offer For Spurs Star But Mourinho Expects Him To Feature Against Norwich

|

With strong rumour mill speculation that Inter Milan are seriously interested in buying Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen this month, talk this week has certainly ramped up a gear or two.

Earlier this month reports surfaced suggesting that Inter were already holding talks with the 27-year-old Danes representatives and although talks were yet to be opened with Spurs directly, the suggestion was it would be a fee in the region of £20million.

Late last night, Sky in Italy confirmed the speculation and had the Serie A side’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, quoted as saying.

“Christian Eriksen is an important player. We have submitted an official offer and now we are waiting.”

Interestingly though, they were also reporting that having been knocked back with a bid of around £8.5million, they had now boosted their initial offer to £11million, plus two unstated bonuses.

Whether or not those bonuses bring the overall fee to the believed £17/20million level that we reportedly value Eriksen at, it’s a remarkable comedown from his earlier supposed valuations.

Sky also reported that Eriksen’s agent, Martin Schoots, would be meeting with chairman Daniel Levy sometime on Tuesday to discuss the deal, but we’re certainly in no position to play hardball here given he can already agree a pre-contract with clubs abroad.

Unless Jose Mourinho was simply being coy when he met with the press ahead of Wednesday’s Norwich City clash, he didn’t sound like a deal was on the cusp of being done.

“He is selected for tomorrow. He will play.”
