“Tension In The Air” – Mourinho Denies Player Spat After Training Ground Reports

|

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has denied reports which suggested he had a training ground spat with out of favour left back, Danny Rose.

The 29-year-old England international threw his own future up in the air earlier in the season when he spoke about summer transfer rumours and stated he would only leave Spurs as a free agent when his contract expired and following the arrival of our new Portuguese gaffer, his game time has been increasingly limited.

He’s only featured three times for the club since we ticked into the month of December, with his last appearance coming against Liverpool almost a fortnight ago and he wasn’t even amongst the substitutes in our most recent clashes with Watford and Middlesbrough.

Following the game, there was talk of a bust-up over the omission but speaking to Sky Sports as we prepare for Wednesday evening’s clash with Norwich City, Mourinho dismissed talk of ‘tensions’ explaining that he missed out on the last one because he had a slight back injury.

“Between me and Danny, no. I don’t know what you mean by tension in the air, I don’t have any problem with him. The reason why he wasn’t selected against Middlesbrough is because we have a young left-back that we want to develop and it was a great opportunity to play Sessegnon. Also because his performance against Liverpool was not phenomenal. Then on the Thursday before Watford, late evening, I got a call from my medical staff saying Danny was calling them with a problem in his back and he wouldn’t train the next day. It was a bit of a surprise that on the Friday he was ready to train, but even so I decided then to play with Japhet Tanganga and have Ryan on the bench. That is the situation.”

I doubt Mourinho’s words here will actually shut down the speculation of a fallout, so all eyes to Wednesday’s team selection I guess.
