Wary opposition: Tottenham have to be aware of the threat weekend opponents can pose – Opinion

|

The festive period of football is finally upon us, and for Tottenham, it’s so far unravelling to be a part of the season that could see the north London side finish in the top-four.

A 2-1 win against Brighton coupled with Chelsea falling to another defeat at home, this time to Southampton, has seen Spurs again back in the driving seat for a Champions League finish in the Premier League, and today’s fixture against Norwich City could see Tottenham return to the top-four for the first time this campaign.

Indeed, a win against Norwich is seemingly the favourable outcome for Tottenham heading into this game with the Canaries rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, but as we all know by now, this division is as unpredictable as it comes, and Daniel Farke’s side are one of the biggest unknowns in English football.

Will Mourinho get us into the top four?

Yes

No

For every loss there is to Southampton and Aston Villa there’s a win against Manchester City and a draw against Arsenal, and this unpredictability surrounding Norwich, especially against the big teams at home, is something Tottenham need to be wary of.

With Tottenham in a great position this weekend to overtake Chelsea in the table with the Blues making the trip away to Arsenal, Jose Mourinho’s side will need to ensure that they can get the business done on their end of the table, and understanding the unpredictability of Norwich and overcoming it will be a big step in claiming three points against the Norfolk-based club.

Spurs had the perfect Boxing Day with the north London giants claiming a win and Chelsea falling to Southampton, and this weekend could see Tottenham head into 2020 in fourth place if the chips once again fall into place.
