I hope we don’t lose Paratici to PSG. I wouldn’t wish that on Paratici or on us.

  • Niall D says:

    Hi TK
Good to see ya back chum ๐Ÿ˜‰
Good call re Chelsea, they basically bought any title they won, Man C aren’t far behind.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

TK – I wouldn’t wish Paratici on PSG. Fonseca/Gatusso/Nuno. Gollini/Royal/Gil. Not great. Potentially redeemed with Kulashevski and Bentancour – the jury is still out on those two but I am spetacuarly unimpressed with him so far.

    • TK says:

Gil has tremendous potential. It remains to be seen if he can toughen up his body to thrive in the PL.

Royal Jelly has been playing in a posiiton he hadn’t played in before, so it’s difficult to assess yet whether he’s the failure you suggest.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

A friend I play golf with asked me in all seriousness yesterday – what is the point in Tottenham Hotspur. I think he has a point. What exactly are we? An ambitious football club – absolutely not, a vehicle for the owners to maximise profits when they sell – I think so.
    Thoughts please everyone?

    • TK says:

what is the point of THFC? To play like THFC as we have done so often in the past. The point is to be daring and play the game beautifully and to function as an example for the world to see of what is the right way to approach the game of football.

you’re question is part of a larger question–what is the point of life? I prefer a response that life is meant to be well lived. When narrowed down to football, the point of playing the game is to play it beautifully. To respect the game, to respect one’s self, and to respect one’s opponent for giving us the opportunity to express our daring to play beautifully.

The point of THFC is to play the right way. To lead life to its best. To have pride in one’s integrity.

Sorry if I’m sounding like a fool to some, but I am here as an emissary for knobheadedness.

DoncasterHotspur – Yes they were a shambles. As we are currently demonstrating having good players and having a good team are not the same thing. Arteteta has used the training ground time to turn them into a team. The point I was making about European football is that it’s a trap if you don’t make fourth and we are now caught in it. But far from cursing our fate people on this site talk as if it was some sort of triumph. There’s a kind of “we are not worthy” mentality where we are supposed to be grateful for scraps and leave the champions league for other clubs. No doubt there will be posts galore next season about how we must play our strongest team in every game regardless of the long term effects on the players. If it was down to me I’d take the Wenger approach in the Europa, focus fully on the league and that top four. Play reserve and youth players in Europe, if you get knocked out so be it. But that entails a grasp of reality that is usually lacking here.

  • jod says:

DoncasterHotspur – I think you should steer clear of talking about finance, or any other subject you know nothing about. Would you like to explain how the owners have taken money out of the club ? Thought not.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Jod – your ignorance truly knows no bounds.. From your previous comments, it is clear that it is you that knows nothing about finance. Your comments on the Europa League show that you don’t know much about football either. Part of my job is to study accounts and balance sheets. There is absolutely no where in my posts where I have said that the owners have taken money out of the club – maybe that came from the fantasy world you obviously live in. On the other hand, out of the 20 clubs in the premier league we are twentieth in owner investment. It is clear from the property investments (partly financed by football club profits) that the owners aim is to maximise the value of the company for sale. Success on the pitch is desirable but not essential. Charging sky high ticket prices and ripping the fans off whilst serving up the dross we have had to put up with in the last few years is however is very high on the agenda.

  • BelgianSpur says:

I’m not a big fan of the EL and it is no doubt a hindrance to league form, for a fraction of the profit that the CL brings in.

Having said that, we are going to need all the money we can get to continue to overhaul the squad. While I am no fan of the EL, I feel that however much money it brings, may be needed this summer in particular.

  • Allan says:

    Doncaster
Exactly the point which was being expressed by many , when ENIC took over the club , that the companies main concern was to make money for the non playing side of the club . It has been shown and is the belief of many that in the past few years real estate is not being developed for the footballing side of the club but to make a fat profit when ENIC decide to sell .
I believe the evidence came from the way they managed the affairs of a Swiss club prior to our takeover which experts at the time pointed out .
The recent letter sent by the THTF also drew attention to the fact that the club was not really addressing the concerns of the faithful season ticket holders, who are paying top dollar for their tickets , especially in these rather difficult times .

  • wentworth says:

    Jod and Doncaster.
We have to remember that our dear chairman is obsessed with blue cross, bargain bin, basement buys that rarely come off. Since the Poch era, we have deteriorated by not replacing top players and always being the last at the party or dithering over a few coppers.
It seems as though star players are also steering clear of THFC because of our lack of ambition.
The fancy stadium and attractive training facilities do not seem to be enough to attract the best as our long search for a decent replacement for Poch proved.
The house and garden are in great order but the contents are creaky and lacking in style and flair.
Roll on the summer. We shall then see if Levy is going to rid the moths of his dusty old wallet and invest in some decent players and get rid of the ones that should be gone.

  • Niall D says:

    Hi folks
Unfortunately I’m struck down with the lurgy (ATM) thankfully so far like a bad cold๐Ÿคง
Tested positive Sunday ๐Ÿ™. Thing is I’ve been nowhere really ๐Ÿค•
WW, just looked at your last post and indeed others above.
We must say that “Some of Paraticis faults, there have been decent signings.
Is Gollini so bad for a second choice, tbh I havnt seen too much of him to judge, I do think we would’ve been better to have kept Hart, but who knows the workings behind the scenes, perhaps Hart wanted away for first team and Euro football, one last hurrah.
Is Gill a bad signing? Or is he just a bit young and light weight for Spurs just now.
Both Deki and Bentacur look pretty decent.
And has been said Emerson was perhaps signed for a different system of play, but does look terrible.
But to our credit, and this is the nub, we have gotten rid of quite a few of our poor signings and those who “didn’t fit” there is more to come, but it’s as much even this year about who goes, as who comes in, I still see at least another 5 to leave, with perhaps 7 required over the Summer to make us work
Among those 5 our for me is a bit of a shocker in Hojberg, as I don’t think Conte fancies him.
I think he feels he could make good money on him, but if Skipp is fit then it would be Skipp and Bentacur in that midfield role.
I don’t particularly want him to go I do feel he is a very good player.
I think having seen what happened after Christmas, the movement of players out, the “resigning” of Hitchen, I do feel that Paraticis and indeed Conte have wrested control of player purchases for Leveys Scatter gun buy and see approach to player recruitment.
I expect to see, more established even a couple of elder statesmen at our club next season.
In short WW I do think you’re right, we’re in for a busy interesting Summer, and I feel the stadium will be full of moths.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Niall – the interest this summer will be the haggling over the sale price for Nโ€™dombele, Lo Celso and Gil, the debate over whether Kane will leave and the last minute trolley dash for signings. In other words the usual summer window for Spurs.

  • Niall D says:

    Honestly DH
I do think we have turned a corner, looking at our recent transfer actions, particularly those who left.
I think Conte and Paratici have wrested control of the footballing side of things from Levey.
But as you know I will stand corrected if it all goes to Sh!T.
I feel we will be more targeted in our acquisitions, and ruthless in our dismissals.
Let’s face it we gotta be, the evidence is there of many many years of very poor investment in players.
I’m probably from the PY school of optimism here (and why not) but I do think we will see big improvements at our club for next year.
I even think there will be a few decent results this season.
Always in hope m8, dare to do ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Love your optimism Niall. Time will tell. Either way it will be an interesting summer

  • Geofspurs says:

ND …. Hope you make a swift recovery, mate.

  • Niall D says:

Cheers Geoff, no improvement just yet ๐Ÿ˜•
Just saw last night’s result Palace, City result, if we think on it, had the hand ball been given at Everton against City, Liverpool would be top, similarly Chelsea just edged Newcastle after a defo pen for Newcastle (not given) ,this is what I have been sort of banging on about for a while.
It’s all about tiny margins and ref decisions going your way.
Plus the weird roller-coaster that is the Premier League, no result is truely a given.
Are Man C and Chelsea really so dominant? For all the extra millions spent? Or is it down to a mix of very good players who on average will get you a win, but also the “Big club” always get the decision.

  • PompeyYid says:

Hey Niall, am dittoing Geof there, hope you get better quickly. COYS
