Transfer News: Tottenham tell buying club to double their offer if they want to sign star

|

We all know very well what Daniel Levy can be like when he’s at the negotiating table. It’s very rare that the Tottenham chairman is easy to work with, and it looks like that is going to be the case here, as Inter Milan are trying to broker a move for Christian Eriksen this month, despite being able to sign him for free in the summer.

It appears that Antonio Conte’s side are desperate to bring the Danish midfielder in as they chase their first Scudetto since the 2009/10 season, when their manager just so happened to be Jose Mourinho, although they’ll have to pay up if they want the midfielder now.

According to Fabrizio Romano in The Guardian, the Nerazzurri have had an initial bid of 10m euros (£8.5m) turned down for Eriksen, as the Lilywhites are looking for double that figure. The player wants to leave Spurs this month, though, and that could be the bargaining piece Levy needs to get what he wants for the creative star.

The report from Fabrizio Romano states:

‘Christian Eriksen has told Inter that he wants to join them in this transfer window after the Serie A club started negotiations with Tottenham to sign the Danish international, who is out of contract in six months.’

‘Inter have offered the Dane a four-year deal, which would be extended by another six months if they can persuade Tottenham to sell the player this month. Inter have begun talks with Tottenham and have offered an initial €10m (£8.5m) but Spurs are holding out for twice that amount.’

‘The agent of the 27-year-old, Martin Schoots, held further discussions with the Italian club on Tuesday, telling them that the player would be keen to join them and that he would like to do so this month. Eriksen has been at Spurs since 2013 but said last summer that he was ready for a new challenge.’

Will you miss Christian Eriksen?

Yes

No

This revelation should make for an interesting couple of weeks before the end of the transfer window regarding Eriksen, and we could well see the Dane make his way out of the club, but for that to happen a lot has to happen at the negotiating table.
