Transfer News: Reputable sources claiming Tottenham set to make shock move for veteran rival striker

|

Tottenham need a striker, Chelsea have three strikers, with one of which has barely featured this season. On paper, it makes a lot of sense, but in practice, seeing the Lilywhites looking to strike up a deal for Olivier Giroud, formerly of Arsenal and now of the Blues, looks out of place.

Jose Mourinho is famed for his work with big target-man type strikers. He’s previously worked wonders with Didier Drogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic who were both fantastic at holding up the ball and using their head to score timely goals.

Obviously, Giroud doesn’t get close to matching the talent that Drogba and Ibrahimovic have, but he’s still a top player in his own right, and he’s the only one of those three with a World Cup winner’s medal to his name, but it still doesn’t feel right that the Lilywhites are looking into signing him.

The reports have come from all over by this point, but one of the more recent ones to mention this as a potential transfer is the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano, who took to Twitter to share the news, the Italian journalist claimed:

‘Tottenham have made an inquiry for Olivier Giroud. He’s a possibility as Krzysztof Piatek (still no agreement with AC Milan) – Chelsea are not convinced yet to sell him to Spurs.’

In the same tweet, Fabrizio Romano also claimed Steven Bergwijn would sign his Spurs contract in the coming hours, and lo and behold, this morning the Dutchman put pen to paper on a deal taking him to north London (BBC).

Would you take Giroud at Tottenham?

Yes, he's the target man we need

No, he's too old

I don't know, but it would wind up Arsenal fans!

Fortunately, it looks like Tottenham aren’t close to completing this one just yet, and the fans will have their eyes on other strikers who they will want to sign ahead of the 33-year-old Chelsea man. However, only time will tell who Mourinho brings in over the next couple of days.
