Report: Tottenham in late talks with World Cup winner who Mourinho ‘wants now’ to fill key area

|

Tottenham are reportedly in talks with Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud with Spurs ready to offer the France international an 18-month contract in the final days of the transfer window.

According to Gianluca di Marzio via GFFN, Jose Mourinho is keen to finally sign a target man this month with Tottenham yet to find a replacement for Harry Kane, who has been ruled out until April at the earliest as reported by the club’s official website, and Giroud has emerged as a late target for Spurs, with the report stating that the Portuguese manager ‘wants him now’ with just two days of the transfer window remaining.

Despite being France’s starting striker for the past few years and leading the line for Les Bleus’ 2018 World Cup-winning side, Giroud’s club form since moving to Chelsea has been nothing short of woeful, with stats from Transfermarkt showing the former Arsenal star has only managed five Premier League goals in 45 appearances for the west London club since moving in January 2018.

Will Spurs Replace Kane In The Transfer Window?

We Have To

No Chance

With Giroud only making one Premier League start this season, the Frenchman is keen for a move away from Chelsea this month to be in contention for France’s 2020 EURO squad, with Inter Milan also being a reported destination for the attacker as reported by Sky Sports News.

Tottenham might be interested in Giroud, but temping Chelsea to sell to a league rival as well as going after a striker with a strong affinity to Arsenal could a difficult proposition for the 33-year-old target man, and with Inter showing this season to be a great club for Premier League players looking for a second lease of life in football, the Premier League forward could be set on a move to Italy rather than Spurs, which would see him become public enemy to a set of fans who still have fond memories of him.
