Tottenham: The Road Ahead.

|

With just six games remaining there is still so much depending on the results of each of them. Whatever happens, happens. A CL trophy, a top three or four finish …. who knows? But what about the road ahead; the road that keeps going when this season is over.

It seems to me that we have two very important decisions to make in the near future. One, we need to finalise the naming rights of our stadium and, Two, we need to be active in the Transfer Window. The first one will increase our financial capacity to mix it with the big boys and the second one will, hopefully, improve the depth and strength of our squad and subsequently our ability to compete more consistently with the big boys on the park.

Both decisions, if made correctly, will determine the future success of the club over the next four or five years. The groundwork is completed and everything is in place for Tottenham to achieve the next level. You know, the level everyone keeps referring to …. the acquisition of silverware.

Even without making use of the TW we could continue to compete for a top four position. We have already demonstrated the ability to make the most of the playing staff the club currently has at its disposal. But with a new stadium, recognised for its breathtaking brilliance, there cannot be a better time to show our intent.

Most Tottenham supporters have enjoyed several seasons of excellent football played by some of Europe’s finest players. More seasons like it would certainly not be the end of the world but ‘the Tottenham project’ that is driving our club forward has not yet reached its destination. The club’s vision for the future is, and always has been, far greater than where we find ourselves now.

We are capable of finishing in the top four this season and we are capable of winning the CL this season. But it would mean playing every remaining game at our optimum level of performance …. and very few teams manage to put together such a run of games at this level. So, as I said, whatever happens, happens.

As far as the next TW is concerned I am sure there will be a great deal of discussion over the next three or four months on who supporters think should leave the club and who they think should be brought in. I’m not going to start speculating about that. That is something for Pochettino to consider and discuss with DL. The one thing we don’t need to speculate about is that Pochettino knows the kind of players he wants in his squad and he knows precisely the way he wants them to play.

He also has a good idea which squad members he wishes to retain for next season and which of his squad members need to make a statement before the season ends. It’s going to be an interesting time until May …. and next season will be even more interesting. The project is on track and the dream is alive. Gotta love football!
