Tottenham Hotspur fans have been discussing a reported transfer target on social media this week after fresh claims emerged.
It’s believed that the north Londoners hold serious interest in Saints skipper Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, as per the Telegraph, who claim that if it were any normal summer, then Spurs would test their resolve with a bid.
Would a midfield of GLC, Ndombele & Hojbjerg be the best in the PL?
Absolutely!
Next joke...
But uncertainty over finances has scuppered that somewhat.
However, Southampton chief executive Martin Semmens has stoked the fire with his comments. Speaking to BBC Solent, via the Daily Echo, he said:
“Let’s be clear about Pierre, he’s been absolutely upfront with us and everybody publicly that he sees himself at the very highest level of football.
“He wants to win the league, he wants to win the Champions League either with us or somebody else and at some point he’s going to either have to drive us to that level or move somewhere else to do it.
“If there’s a club out there that can win the Champions League and they think Pierre can improve their team, if they can pay for him then, in the end, we have to let him go.”
Much of the Spurs faithful see the 24-year-old as the perfect signing this summer, and I’m inclined to agree. He’d be an ideal steal for Jose Mourinho, especially given his desire for that “positional midfielder” – that’s a defensive lynchpin to you and me.
Hojbjerg is averaging 2.4 tackles, 1.7 clearances, 1.5 shots and one key pass per game this season, via WhoScored, and he’d come with plenty of top-flight experience having played over 100 times for the south-coasters since swapping Munich for Southampton in 2016.
It remains to be seen how much the Dane would command with Transfermarkt valuing him at just £10.8m whilst Sky Sports cited a report from their Italian colleagues hinting £35m.

He’s the perfect signing for us! Young yet experienced. A few good seasons of PL football under hit belt so should hit the ground running

Exactly what we need.

Reminds me of when we signed Wanyama. I was very disappointed to say the least but he proved to be quality for 2 years! Would take that now from Hojbjerg! Plus would give Skipp 2 years to progress!

He is better than what we have got
— John Mac (@chumbamac) June 8, 2020
he is everything we need and more. Makes our shaky midfield very strong, maybe strongest in the league

better than skipp dier and sissoko 100% but winks is a little different to him as a player

AND in other news, “He could transform Spurs”: Levy tipped to sign “insane” 21-goal ace…
A right back, centre back and a striker is exactly what we need.
