Tottenham ‘bid to lure’ central midfielder in January, Spurs could ‘quadruple current wage’

According to Bild (h/t TEAMTalk), Tottenham ‘bid to lure’ Jonas Hofmann to the club and could ‘quadruple (his) current wage’ to procure his signature. Spurs have a dearth of fit and available midfielders and the 26-year-old has been identified by the Londoners as a potential alternative to Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli.

Tottenham are enduring a crisis of late, with Alli ruled out until March with a hamstring injury, Moussa Sissoko sidelined until early-February with a groin strain and Victor Wanyama on the recovery trail from a knee problem. Hofmann is a more offensive midfielder than the aforementioned, but he could be a good addition to the squad.

The German u21 international has made 77 appearances for Borussia Mochengladbach since his 2016-move from Borussia Dortmund, scoring and creating 25 goals. Hofmann has contributed nine goals in 13 Bundesliga games this season, creating 24 chances and averaging 45 passes-per-game with an 83% completion ratio.

Hofmann has been a regular for Gladbach so it’s hard to see the German outfit selling him mid-season. Spurs aren’t a side likely to panic buy either, so they may instead rely upon internal solutions to solve their midfield crisis.
