“To Dier Is To Do” “A Step Back” – These Spurs Fans Have A Mixed Reaction To Contract News

|

Tottenham Hotspur and England international, Eric Dier, has today extended his contract at White Hart Lane through until the end of 2024.

With 239 appearances to his name with Spurs following his arrival from Sporting Lisbon back in 2014, he’s clearly been a key player for us since then, but things haven’t always gone his way on the pitch as he filled in either at midfield or back in defence.

With plenty of questions at Spurs at the moment given our performance levels and whether or not Jose Mourinho is the man to help us to silverware, Dier’s message on signing the new deal was pretty clear. Speaking to the BBC he explained.

“I’m really happy to continue here and commit to this new journey we are on. The club gave me my opportunity in England and has given me so much but I want to have even better times. I still feel there are a lot of things I need to achieve here before it’s over. I feel like I’m at the beginning of a new journey albeit at the same place. My clear objective and I think the manager’s clear objective is to try and win trophies for this club. When the day does come to leave this club I want to leave knowing that I have done that.”

Reacting to his new deal on social media, there was certainly a mix of thoughts from fans, both positive and negative, to the news, but given he’s a good, solid pro for us I have absolutely no qualms here, as Dier isn’t on the list of players we need to quickly improve on when it comes to defence. He’s also good versatile cover in the squad.
