With a number of fans calling for goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga to get his shot between the sticks following the injury to Number 1 Hugo Lloris, with Michel Vorm going down with injury himself the 26-year-old Argentine stopper is getting an extended spell in the first team.
Whether manager Mauricio Pochettino’s hand was forced or not, in his two appearances so far this campaign, Gazzaniga is still waiting for a clean sheet but we haven’t lost, and he certainly took his opportunity to shine in the midweek EFL Cup third round clash against Watford.
With the scores tied at 2-2 come the fulltime whistle, the game entered a penalty shootout and he frustrated Watford twice, saving efforts from Etienne Capoue and Domingos Quina.
Gazza has played 3 games for us, got 3 wins, and 3 MOTM awards. If he hasn't replaced Vorm as the #2 something's gone seriously wrong. I like Vorm, he's incredibly loyal to us, but it's reached the point where you can't deny he's past it

Just offer him a 6 year deal already

Easily our new number 2 goalkeeper + he must start all our remaining League Cup and FA Cup games. Well done to him. He has clearly worked hard on aspects of his goalkeeping and is reaping the rewards.

For plenty of fans, he should now already be promoted to our backup option for Lloris on the bench and his recent performances have simply backed up that belief as it hasn’t come as a surprise to some who saw his efforts all those years ago for Southampton.
Calls for the Number 1 position are a little bit premature mind you.
