The Curious Case of Troy Parrott

|

When Spurs released their 28 man squad to South Korea, many eyes would have turned to Troy Parrott.

Fresh from a decent loan League One spell at MK Dons last season, having netted ten goals in all competitions for a side who narrowly missed out on promotion, his exploits at that level have not gone unnoticed. Indeed, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, QPR, and Preston all reportedly registering interest in giving him a tour of the Championship next season. However, all are being made to wait while Antonio Conte  weighs up Parrott’s adequacy for his squad.

Whilst it would undoubtedly benefit Parrott no end to see regular Championship action as a more developed player than he was at Millwall, I’d love Parrott to finally breakthrough. However, having already reinforced our front-line, and with questions remaining over his ability to cut it at the top level, I think a Championship loan would be wiser.

Nevertheless, the early signs look promising – barely had last season’s dust settled and the lad had already taken a leaf out of the Dele book to voice to all and sundry how hard he was working in Cyprus. And you know what, fair play to him – videos were doing the rounds yesterday of him being the last man standing in Conte’s brutal training session last night, shaming the likes of Kane and Sonny. But he has to do more to prove his worth, and I look forward to see how he gets on this week and before the transfer window shuts.

Keeping a player hanging around without playing does no one any favours. Skipp’s Norwich loan made him as a player, something similar could be the making of Parrot. Of course getting the right loan can be the problem, but you’ve got to try.
