Tottenham fans won’t be at all happy with yesterday’s draw away at Middlesbrough in the FA Cup as they now face a replay against the Championship side, but things could have been so different had the Lilywhites gone into this game with Davinson Sanchez in the side.

The Colombian defender hasn’t started any of Tottenham’s last three games, in which they’ve drawn twice against Boro and Norwich and lost 1-0 at Southampton, however, in the previous three, which Sanchez started all of them, the Lilywhites won twice and lost one.
The young central defender is quite clearly an incredibly talented player and one who needs to be nurtured by Jose Mourinho, and fixture congestion could be the reason behind him being benched as of late, but he needs to be playing more in the long-term.
Will Mourinho fix the defence?
Yes
No
You can read the Lilywhites’ thoughts on Sanchez here:
Baffling, been the stand out performer in the games he’s started lately, mourinho seemed to really have a positive impact on him, something we don’t know

He’s actually been our best defender this season but gets dropped cause he’s not as good on the ball. We need players that can defend

Better than Vertongen right now by miles
— SÁNCHEZ| #Gainszn (@vasily_the) January 5, 2020
He’s our best defender by far
— Jack (@JRG91802) January 5, 2020
He’s the fastest and at the moment with balls over the top there’s no recovery pace. At least 3 goals conceded are because of that.

He was by far our best player against Chelsea too. The whole squad needs rebuilding, not just the defence

The Lilywhites have got a lot of time for Sanchez, and will just hope he returns for the Liverpool game next time out.
