Spurs star who is a ‘shoo-in’ to break record has no excuses for picking up club form – Opinion

When Wayne Rooney broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s goal-scoring record for England to make it 50 goals in total for the Three Lions against Switzerland, not many would have expected a striker in the current generation as the now Derby Country attacker to again break that feat.

Yet for Harry Kane, it is seemingly almost a guarantee that the Tottenham striker and England captain will break Rooney’s record for country sooner rather than later as the 26-year-old attacker took his tally over this recent international break for Gareth Southgate’s side to 32 goals.

Will Kane break Rooney's goal-scoring record for England

Yes

No

Indeed, a hat-trick against Montenegro and a sole strike against Kosovo have the likes of Chris Sutton claiming that Kane is now a ‘shoo-in’ to break Rooney’s incredible goal-scoring record as per The Daily Mail, but for Tottenham fans, their main concern will be when is this international form going to be translated to club?

Although Kane has been in regular goal-scoring form for Tottenham this season, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that the 26-year-old forward has managed 10 goals in 15 appearances in all competitions so far, the Spurs striker’s league form has been somewhat poor to what supporters have been grown accustomed too over the past few seasons.

The Tottenham star has managed just six goals in 12 Premier League appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season, whilst for England, Kane has hit the back of the net in every competitive game for the Three Lions since September, racking up 10 strikes in six appearances as stats from Transfermarkt show.

Kane’s international form this season has been nothing short of incredible, helping England to qualify for EURO 2020 with a game in hand and setting himself up to blow Rooney’s goal-scoring record for the Three Lions out of the water, but now the striker needs to focus on retaining this hot-form for when playing for Tottenham comes back around.

The lack of goals from Kane this season in the league has been a big miss for Spurs and a reason as to why Pochettino finds his side as low as they are in the standings, and if Tottenham are to dig themselves out of this hole, they will need the 26-year-old striker to regain his form and get his club back onto the trail of a top-four finish.
