Spurs’ move for winger comes after failed move for another

|

After the dramatic news has emerged today of Tottenham Hotspur’s hijacking of fellow Premier League side Everton’s loan move for Villareal winger Arnaut Danjuma, it has been further reported that Spurs only moved for the Dutchman after missing out on another winger: Udinese’s Gerard Delofeu.

Indeed, according to Tuttomercatoweb (in Italian), Spurs had sought the services of the 29-year-old Catalan winger on a loan deal until the end of the season, but Udinese had been reluctant to sanction such a deal, either preferring an outright sale or to keep hold of a player who has scored 2 goals and registered 6 assists for them so far this season.

After this emphatic answer, Spurs then decided to move swiftly for Villareal’s Danjuma. Having missed out on Leandro Trossard to Arsenal and ostensibly opted against a move for Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo (or so it appears) on top of Udinese’s rejection of Spurs’ advances, the Lilywhites were seemingly eager to get another forward in the squad.

Given both Richarlison’s and Dejan Kulusevski’s respective injury troubles of late, as well as doubts over the consistent productivity of Bryan Gil and Lucas Moura at times, and the drastic decline of the form of Heung-min Son, getting another forward in makes perfect sense, and it looks like that is just what Spurs have done here.
