New contract for New Zealand international

|

Tottenham Hotspur have today announced that midfielder Ria Percival has signed a new contract with the club which will last into June 2025.

The 33-year-old midfielder has has made 60 appearances in all competitions for Spurs up to now, and is currently New Zealand’s record appearance holder with 160 caps for the Kiwis.

It was for New Zealand in an international friendly against Australia back in April 2022 that Percival picked up a horrendous ACL injury that has kept her out until December, where the experienced midfielder gave the team a much-needed boost by returning to training.

A set-piece specialist and a versatile player who is able to play in a deep-lying midfield role as well as an advanced attacking one, Percival’s return to fitness and commitment to the club is therefore a big boost for a side currently struggling in the Women’s Super League.

Indeed, Rehanne Skinner’s side has lost the last five WSL matches in a row, scoring only once, but has been boosted by the arrivals of experienced England forward Beth England and Japanese international midfielder Mana Iwabuchi, which should see the squad in a healthier state as they tackle what promises to be a grueling second half of the campaign.

Spurs Women are back in action in the Conti Cup against Chelsea on Wednesday night at Brisbane Road, with another home cup tie also awaiting them on Sunday against London City Lionesses in the FA Cup, where Skinner and the ladies will be hoping to end Spurs’ wretched run of form.
