Spurs hijack move for winger

|

Just as it seemed that Villarreal’s Dutch winger Arnaut Danjuma was on his way to Everton, Tottenham Hotspur have swept in at the eleventh hour to seemingly steel the 25-year-old from under the Toffees’ noses.

Indeed, as of yesterday, Danjuma had flown over into England from Spain, agreed personal terms with the Blues and completed a medical at Everton’s training ground Finch Farm, and completed media duties with his ostensibly new club (via Sky Sports).

However, fast forward to today, and the Dutchman has apparently agreed to join Spurs, and if Alisdair Gold of Football.London is to be believed, is currently undergoing a medical at Hotspur Way ahead of a loan move for the remainder of the season.

The terms of the deal have yet to be confirmed, but it is thought that Villarreal had demanded a £2.5 million loan fee, with an option to buy Danjuma for £27 million at the end of the season should his loan be deemed successful, something that Spurs must have agreed to for Villarreal to give the green light for his move to N17 (via The Times – subscription required).

Interestingly, The Times report describes this deal as less of a hijack on Spurs’ part, and more of a case of him being offered to Spurs by the Spanish club after Danjuma had fallen out with the management staff and his move to Everton had broken down once Frank Lampard was sacked by the Liverpudlians yesterday.

This one is sure moving fast, so have your say on Danjuma’s potential move on the transfer on the Vital Spurs fan forum here.
