Spurs confirm winger loan

|

After news broke yesterday that Tottenham Hotspur had hijacked Everton’s move for Villareal winger Arnaut Danjuma, the club have today confirmed the signing of the 25-year-old Dutchman on loan until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

Danjuma joins after falling out of favour at Villareal, who he joined from Bournemouth back in 2021. In his first year in Spain, Danjuma caught the eye of Europe by scoring six goals in the Yellow Submarine’s run to the Champions League semi-final, on top of ten goals in La Liga.

He has so far scored six in seventeen appearances in all competitions, but after a dispute behind the scenes, the Spanish side were willing to send him out on loan to any willing takers, and it turns out that Spurs were one of them.

Although it was reported by The Times (subscription required) yesterday that Danjuma’s loan deal is an initial loan with a fee of £2.5 million and a further option to make the deal permanent in the summer for £27.5 million, the terms of Danjuma’s loan have not been officially verified by the club, but The Athletic (subscription required) state that there is an option to make the deal permanent following the conclusion of the loan.

Although Danjuma hardly set the heather on fire with Bournemouth in the Premier League in his first taste of English football, he found his feet to an extent in the Championship following the Cherries’ relegation in 2020, and eventually scored 17 goals in 52 games for them. He is therefore not alien to the rigours of English football in the slightest.

More will follow, but in the meantime, have your say on the Danjuma signing on the Vital Spurs fan forum here.
