Spurs wing-back available for loan

|

Reports have surfaced today that Tottenham Hotspur’s young right wing-back, Djed Spence, has been made available for a loan move as Spurs seek to upgrade their options in the position with the potential signing of Pedro Porro (read more about that here).

Indeed, 90 Min have reported that ‘sources’ have confided in them that Spurs are willing to let the 22-year-old Englishman leave on loan this winter to gain some much-needed minutes. Indeed, Spence has barely registered half an hour in Spurs colours this season – he is yet to start a match for the Lilywhites, and many supporters have been irked by his frequent use as a sub in added time.

The only time he has been used as a substitute for longer than 5 minutes was in the 2-0 defeat back at one of his old clubs, Nottingham Forest, in the League Cup back in November.

It would therefore be a good idea to not only get him out on loan where he can play regular football, but also free up some space in a position where there are currently too many bodies if you factor in the fact that we still have Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty to call upon there on top of the potential arrival of Porro.

The 90 Min report states that Spence has interest in the Premier League from Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Southampton, and West Ham, and in the Championship from high-flyers Burnley and the club we signed him from in July, Middlesbrough.

However, given the ordeal that Daniel Levy endured in negotiating with Boro chairman Steve Gibson for Spence’s signing, a move back up to Teesside looks highly unlikely, but either way, Spence is not short of interest. With the aforementioned factors in mind, a loan move seems best for all parties.
