Renewed optimism for wing-back transfer

|

After news broke in Portugal yesterday that Tottenham Hotspur had scheduled a final meeting with Sporting CP for the transfer of Pedro Porro (read about that here), the latest on the potential transfer comes courtesy of Portuguese outlet Record via Sport Witness.

The latest incarnation of the transfer saga provided in the report states that Spurs have grown increasingly confident of getting a deal done for Porro today, with Record stating that Spurs are now willing to meet Sporting’s release clause of €45m, meaning that the obstacles in the way of getting a transfer done for the Spaniard are pretty much nonexistent.

The Portuguese outlet further states that the initial indication of Porro’s transfer to N17 being ‘imminent’ was his appearance off the bench just after the 75th minute in Sporting’s Taça da Liga semi-final triumph at Arouca last night, a match that he would have ordinarily started.

Sporting are now in the final of the competition on Saturday, and it is stated that Sporting head coach Ruben Amorim wants to count on the 23-year-old Spaniard for the game, but if Spurs meet the clause, the power of Amorim being able to do so will obviously amount to the square root of nowt!

However, one thing the report does mention is a bit of snide activity on Spurs’ part – although it is stated that Spurs are willing to meet the €45m release clause, the Record report claims that the Lilywhites will be looking to pay this fee in stages rather than in one big chunk, so there is work to be done in today’s meeting yet to see if Sporting are happy with this.
