Report: Tottenham must pay ‘substantially’ more than £22.5m & £2.9m wages to sign midfielder

According to Davin Anderson of the Mirror, Tottenham are interested in James Maddison and could battle a number of clubs to procure his signature. The 22-year-old has been outstanding at Leicester City and has a lot of Premier League interest this summer.

Maddison made the switch from Norwich City last summer and has gone to make 36 league appearances in his debut season at the King Power Stadium, scoring and creating 14 goals. The England u21 international has created 100 chances and averaged 39 passes-per-game with 84% accuracy.

The Leicester star made 50 successful dribbles (68%), won 11 aerial duels, took 83 shots with 34% accuracy and averaged a tackle (48) or interception (12) every 48 minutes. He’s been outstanding in the top-flight and could be a good fit at Tottenham.

Maddison can play central midfield, advanced playmaker and on the left flank. His preferred role is similar to Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen’s. The Mirror say Tottenham must pay ‘substantially’ more than the £22.5m Leicester spent on bringing the £55k-per-week midfielder to the Midlands.

Given the Londoners were happy to bid £53m for Giovani Lo Celso, they have the funds to meet Leicester’s asking price.
