Opinion: Tottenham should sign £27k-per-week Werder Bremen man

|

With Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen potentially on their way out of Tottenham this summer, the Londoners will need at least one player going in the opposite direction. Spurs have been linked with Max Kruse over the course of the season and could return for the striker after news of his release.

Tottenham reportedly sent scouts to watch Kruse in April while Bremen confirmed in mid-May that the 31-year-old would be leaving at the end of his contract. Spurs could land their transfer target for free in the coming weeks and will only have to pay his £27k-per-week wages.

In his final season at the Weser Stadium, Kruse scored (11) and created (9) 20 goals in 32 Bundesliga games. Bremen finished eight in the Bundesliga with 53 points from 34 games, ending the campaign with consecutive wins. Kruse age means Tottenham will only want a short-term deal, but he has the attributes to be more than a useful squad player in 2019/20.

The German international created 82 chances in the Bundesliga this season, averaged 50 passes-per-game with 79% accuracy, made 37 successful dribbles (67%), took 91 shots with 45% accuracy and made 25 tackles and interceptions for his troubles. Kruse could be a shrewd signing for Tottenham.
